Linux - Screen Share Sound Support
With Screen Sharing sound already supported on Windows, I would like Screen Sharing to be supported for Discord on Linux as well.
Gaming on Linux exists and does relatively well despite what many naysayers think or wish to believe and having this support for users such as myself would make this less frustrating.
(Not to mention that we're not even mentioned in the supported platforms art along with the other logos at the bottom of the site's webpages...)

Post is still pending approval.
Wayland is bugged, so is the audio in screensharing. Also having microphone sensitivity issues where pavucontrol was at 150% and Discord at 100% to just be able to be heard. It needs fixing, and soon.1 -
+1, do something for once

At the very least could we get the option to select an audio device for screen share? Just implementing it normally would of course be preferred, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen

+1, please god, how is this not a thing

I use Discord daily on Linux and constantly have to constantly have to hijack my mic just to have any sound from screen sharing. I've been an advocate in the past of supporting Discord in lieu of the alternatives, but I feel like a second class user given the lack of support that Linux receives.

I like to play games with my friends over Discord, but since I use Linux as my operating system of choice, I can't stream audio at all. It's a huge barrier for me and my group since I have work to do on Linux and need to stop everything, and swap to Windows in order to enjoy media together. It's frustrating to have to restart every time I want to do that.

This is a ridiculous feature to not support with the rising popularity of gaming on linux

It is really pathetic that this just keeps getting ignored. You have people making unofficial Discord clients like @edisionnano and the Rohrkabel library by @Curve to get linux screen sharing audio to work.. Yes Discord does not want people using unofficial clients.. if you have people taking that much time to implement workarounds, it is time to put it into the mainline client. This is insane.. screen audio capture on linux is totally doable. GET IT DONE.

it's genuinely ridiculous that this is still an issue
i know linux is a much smaller userbase and not going to be a priority, but it's insanely frustrating when the standard itself should be able to handle this now, and there's just... nothing from discord about it?

Bump so they can't ignore this
Cancelling nitro because it's still not supported

It's still such a dumb thing that they work on other features and aesthetics, while such a basic feature is missing on linux, and it would take little to no effort to fix it
On top of it, the fact that this is, by far, literally the most voted post on voice and video topic, it's absurd2 -
Since they clearly are ignoring this thread, I think the only way to get their attention is to start spamming their support and ask why this doesn't work + send them tweets. Maybe that will get them to finally fix it.

Everyone should just act stupid and ask why the sound doesn't work when we share our screen.

Has this already been done in the past, perchance?

Twitter is likely the best option at this point. Also getting non-Linux friends to upvote/tweet since it affects them too.

Seems like a potential opportunity for a competitor like "Guilded" to maybe step in and take over, since Discord is clearly dropping the ball here… Kick some more folks to the curb who would have happily paid for your service there, Discord… Hope it works out for ya.
2 -
@BlooAlien Hate to break it to you but Guilded on Linux is so poorly coded, and lacks every basic feature that Windows has, and doesn't even have an App Tray icon, so if you close the window or minimize it you can't get it back up again. No time or thought has been put into it.

@Alkaris: Are you absolutely 100% sure about all those things you say there? I'm currently looking directly at the "Guilded" tray icon on my Linux/KDE desktop right this moment. Still exploring the app, as I've only recently been told Guilded even exists, but thus far I'm not really seeing any "basic feature" missing yet. Still gotta test the streaming before I'm completely sold on it, but thus far it's looking like they could easily become (if they aren't already) a valid alternative to Discord. Not that it matters, because I'm still looking for any viable alternative to Discord at this point, since they clearly don't want me using (or paying for) their service.

Question: is it really just a matter of updating Electron version for the desktop application? What goes into this?
3 -
If you really need audio streaming you can use discord-screenaudio
It's still a WIP but it works. However, it only works with PipeWire and not PulseAudio.
So webcord for Wayland support and then discord-screenaudio for audio on streaming.
How have these issues not been fixed yet ?????
1 -
It should be yes
Updating electron would also fix wayland support and fix numerous security issues caused my using an out of date version of electron
Discord's negligence is dangerous.
Also they have started to ban people who ask support about this issue. For the time they are spending on stopping people talking about this issue could be used to just update electron ffs.

Wait, what? What the f? Hasn't there been any effort from Discord or some other community too to just do such a simple thing, instead of pumping on other new buggy features/updates?
3 -
There are a few. WebCord is a project to get discord support on wayland but it's laggy and video streaming doesn't work well as discord thinks it's running in a web browser as it's not the official client.
discord-screenaudio is another project to basically bodge the discord web app to support audio streaming but it only works on pipewire.
Neither are a good solution and they all have their issues. The discord team could easily fix all of these issues. The open-source community has fixed them in newer versions of electron but discord refuses to update.
Best thing you can do is cancel nitro if you have it to push them to update.
1 -
The community has tried to fix it but I can't mention it here as it gets your discord support account banned.
Discord is spending more time banning people than taking the 20 mins to fix it.
It would take basically no time on their part to fix it.
Discord can no longer be used on: Unbuntu, Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE and more by default.
Also because of the security vulnerabilities, discord poses a threat to the security of your device.
Thanks Discord!

What the hell man its still not fixed??? how long will it take. Ah I guess its time to go back on windows no one can help it
-1 -
It's not time to go back on windows, it's time to not pay for nitro or use alternatives and push your windows friends to do same. If they lose a lot of users, maybe they will change their decision and finally begin to support linux as well

Why is discord ignoring us? Seriously guys? People have been asking for over like 3 years now. Discord saying Linux users don't care or use discord is a BIG understatement and since there is a bunch of steam deck user starting to join they would like to use discord and screen share there games with audio but I guess there gonna be rlly disappointed.
