Filing a complaint: verification of data never given, 5 working days and no support
Hello there,
On Monday I got a friend to create an account with Discord and add me, almost immediately after I get "we've detected something out of the ordinary going on" and a request to verify information - information I never gave, and do not want to give (I'd like to keep that private). Rather than just requesting it be deleted after, I do not want to give it at all.
I then got a friend (via text messages) to add the guy who created an account, he now has the same problem too.
I have 20-30 contacts and 1 server thing I cannot figure out how to leave, I seldom even use Discord and more rarely still do I ever post a link or something - it's also been 5 days since I've heard from support.
Luckily I've got a screenshot of my contact list and I've let most know - but this makes it no more acceptable.
I'd like to file an "official complaint" because of the handling (or lack of) of this, and providing a phone number is not "necessary data" for Discord to function (to use the language of the UK's data protection act). I've had an account a while now, with no problems.
Further still, in the tutorial popups Discord have I was never informed that getting people to join (or something) is suspicious - I understand somehow SPAM false positives happen, but I filed the ticket on Monday and have since heard nothing - I even replied to the email I got saying "we'll ignore you unless you do".
I hope taking this step gets somewhere, thanks for your time.

On the 17th of November I got a stock email saying the problem had been lifted - it has now (it is 12 days later now) and this complaint has had no reply.
IRC would have been a better choice than Discord. In the stock email I got it listed some things that "may have caused it" - I did not do these things. I tried to add a friend who (at my request) had just created an account and I use the Discord open source plugin for Pidgin,
For privacy reasons, and because my phone number is not critical information Discord needs to function - I still reject giving it (to then insist it be deleted) and was never told on sign up this'd be the case.
During Covid19 I'd used Discord more than usual - mainly with direct messages as I can't figure out the server thing - and for the last 2 weeks and 3 days this has happened. I don't have emails for all my contacts. and I just get messages
This is, frankly, shit, I've hated what Skype has been doing since around 2017 - but it never gave me these problems. A false positive to a filter SHOULD have been caught very quickly when I passed the capatcha and submitted a support ticket - over 2 weeks ago
