In app account switching
With the recent pandemic and both institutions and work moving to be more integrated with online communication platforms, discord has started to be used more often for things outside of casual gaming. When it comes to this, being able to account for fun and an account for more professional purposes would be useful. I tried this but found it was tricky to keep up with events happening on one account while in the other. I feel like a system to add an account to a client would go a long way. (Similar to Twitter or Instagram)
While this would increase users' quality of life with multiple accounts, there are still possible drawbacks. The main concern that I have considered is making multiple accounts pose to a person. It could be abuse for raids and other such purposes. But if there were a way to link accounts such that if one account were banned or kicked, the other accounts that share a client would also be similarly punished to fill in this loophole. This could mitigate the harm.
I believe this would bring a measurable benefit to many groups and bring discord more into the mainstream. The use isn't just limited to professional groups; it could bring around an easier time tailoring accounts towards specific interests. I would personally like to have different icons for different groups of people, for example, and different display types of information to them.
