A built in feature to mute server members (in text and voice channels)

There should be a built-in feature to mute users in text and voice channels ie they will not be able to chat or speak in channels. Similar to kick and ban, I believe that this is a required feature in all discord servers and users shouldn't have to rely on bots or adding a role for it.

 

Some suggestion on implementing this feature:

  • Of course, a new permission for muting/unmuting users.
  • A temporary mute with predefined times (eg. How temporary channel notification muting works)
  • Option to let muted users chat/speak in select channels
  • Let user specific channel permissions to let said user bypass the mute
  • Add an easier way for moderators to add user specific channel permissions to let said user bypass the mute

 

I'm not sure why this feature hasn't already be request yet but i'm sure that most would agree that this is something useful and required.

    I agree. It seems like there needs to be some moderator tools besides kick and ban. Sometimes, I have a need to just put people in timeout for a few minutes to calm down and to make it clear to them and others that their behavior is leading down a path that will eventually lead to banning if they keep it up.
