xuvv you need to add a phone number when it asks you to do so. You can also follow the link in the message to contact Discord support for assistance. The first message will be automated confirmation. You have to allow at least 48 hours for someone to get back to you.

flying dwarf child 1 you could ask one of your friends or a family member to help you with this. Get creative! All they have to do is provide you their phone number and maybe allow you to use their phone for a minute so you can receive the SMS code. What else are friends for, right? You can remove their phone number when you're done.

Be sure to activate 2FA on your account just in case you run into this problem again, and 2FA is something you can use on your own mobile device or on your desktop computer or laptop, either device type works. You can use Google Authenticator for this for example. Then you don't need to get a phone number to access your Discord account should you ever run into this problem again. But for now, I think you have to provide a phone number.

Kayy what did Adrian from Discord support team say? I'm curious. He sent you an email, right? I'm not sure how else you would expect him to reply to your support request but through email. You don't expect him to answer you on Discord do you? You can't access your Discord account at the moment, you won't be able to read the message even if he was to send you a reply that way. That's not how it works.

The answer depends on what the question is. If the answer is how to get past the "Something's Going on Here" screen, then the answer is you have to provide a working mobile phone number (and have access to the device that the phone number is registered with, naturally).

I can guarantee it you will get access to your account if you provide a phone number, and you know the password for this account.

kasparanswinning the best advice I can give you is to try to get a good friend or a family to let you use their phone number. Note that they need to let you use their phone so you can get the SMS code, or they can read the code for your if they don't want to let you handle their mobile phone. Once you're in, you can activate 2FA and add a code to your own device, be it mobile phone or a computer, and then you can remove your friend's phone number from your Discord account. You won't need a phone number again in the future if you activate 2FA. Also note, you still need to know the password in order to add the phone number to your account.

@_.Thiccsuga._ it is possible to verify by email, but that only works for example when signing in from a new location or a new device, and only as long as the account has not been flagged by the system for suspicious activity. Once it has been flagged, only adding a phone number or a 2FA code will allow you to regain access to the account.

I do understand the frustration, I was in the situation myself not too long ago. I agree that there should be other ways to verify the account. As far as I know, Discord has no concept of a recovery email. The main email address used to create the account is the only email address used with the account. If that email account is ever compromised, it would be useless to send the recovery codes to that email address. Rather, it should be sent to the recovery email address. But since Discord has no records of recovery email addresses on the accounts, they rely on phone numbers instead.

Adding a phone number presents a bigger challenge than adding an email address. It is less likely for example that someone will use a burner phone number to gain access, phone numbers usually come with a contract, especially in the United States from what I can tell, so people are less likely to toss away and "burn" something they are paying for. Email addresses on the other hand are more expandable, and Discord knows this. That's why they allow you to add a phone number to recover your Discord account, after the fact, after the account has already been flagged for suspicious activity or possibly taken over by someone else. If anything, they should ask of us to add a phone number to our Discord accounts long before this event takes place, before our accounts are flagged. In other words, we should be thankful that Discord is allowing us to regain access in this way! We have no right to request access of accounts we cannot prove ownership of.

So even if someone is reading this and is not affected by the "Something's Going on Here" screen, they should take precautions and add a phone number to their account anyway! Or if they don't have a phone number or like to hold their phone number private, activate 2FA on the account, which is even better. Act now or be sorry later!

Gracie I think they do lift the phone number requirement on some accounts and sometimes. When I talked to Discord support they told me they could not lift the requirement on my account, for whatever reason. But it shows that they do have the capacity to lift it if they want to. I don't think it's common that they do that. Once an account has been flagged, it's too late, you won't get away without providing a phone number to regain access. I think you are one of a lucky few and was allowed access without providing a phone number.

Now that you have access to your account, I advise you to add a phone number to it. Don't wait for this to become a requirement where you can't log in otherwise. Alternatively, activate 2FA on your account and you don't need to provide a phone number, but can enjoy the same benefits. Act now or be sorry later.

We may not agree with Discord and all of its policies or security practices, but we need to remind ourselves that we are guests in their house. As a guest in someone else's house on a hot summer day, you don't demand a fresh and cool glass of lemonade, but you thank them kindly if you get one.

Just add the phone number and be done with it. You can remove it later on.

Apparently, you can run into servers on Discord that will require you to provide a phone number before you're able to join. Below you will find screenshots of one such server, and the all too familiar prompt to enter a phone number.

So apparently there is more than one reason to add a phone number to your Discord account.

You can of course choose not to provide a phone number, but then you won't be allowed to sign in and regain access to your account in case you have been locked out. In case you already can sign in and you don't have the "Something's Going on Here" problem discussed in this topic, you may still want to add a phone number to your account in order to access and enjoy more servers on Discord, servers like this one, where a phone number is required in order to join.

I'm not sure if this is a new trend or something, but there you have it. To add a phone number or not to?... it's up to you.

Hi on1lxs6c - I imagine from the amount of posts you've just done that you must be some kind of disciple for Discord - or at least an apologist.  Look at the mass of posts from people who have all run into the same problem just attampting to get into a webpage - Do you think that is normal - or even OK?  Can you suggest another website that exhibits the same animosity toward it's users.  Can you suggest another Support Team that displays the same level of blind denial toward the customers that post these problems on it's own Support Forum.  At best it displays a level of arrogance that is breathtaking and at worst blunt ignorance.  In my case all I want to do is post a request for information from an astronomy software group who have unwisely chosen to host on this GODAWFUL website.  This behaviour is unheard of anywhere else in the astronomy community and I predict the software developer will lose customers over this very quickly.

Words cannot describe how much I agree with your comment, like why would they need a phone number to register your account, shouldn't an email be enough.

Also, one time, I made a new account and instantly got the screen with a email option. Once I verified my email... IT JUST TOOK ME BACK TO THE SCREEN WITHOUT A EMAIL OPTION! I had to use my oldest account I never logged in to. That didn't get the screen, and I got a tablet to get 2fa for. I haven't gotten the screen yet, but it's prob going to happen to me anyway!

Hello everyone. If you are receiving this problem I may have a solution. If you have a friend and their number, use their number and have them read it off the verification code to you. It helped me big time
