EVENT feature
Hello discord users / staff,
I just discussed with other users about the benefits to integrate this feature into Discord servers.
This feature consist in the addition of event creation and notification directly in discord. With this feature, all discord server managers will be able to create events with their community.
And it could be very interesting for a lot of communities (game event, staff meetings, associations, students/teachers (#covid), give-away, e-sport event ...etc)
I'm sure that it's could be very useful and appreciated by users.
I imagine it like that :
- There will be a little calendar button in the chat bar (next to gifs and emojis) named "Create an event".
- Clicking on this calendar button open an event form with 3 fields : A short text field to name the event, a date-picker to select a date and an hour, a text area to add a quite long description (1024 characters max as channel description)
Following by two buttons "Cancel" and "Create" - It will post a kind of card (like server invitations) with the event name, date and description, followed by 2 buttons : "Participate" and "Not interested"
- If the user click participate, it will be notified (as a mention) by the event approaching (milestones to defined, an example will be maybe 1 week, 1 day and 1 hour before the event)
- Addition of two new role permissions : "Event creation" and "Event participation"
The concept could be more elaborated by defining which roles you want to invite at event creation, but in my view, for the moment all previous points should be great before more possibilities.
Hope that it will hype other users ! :D
Have a nice day !

Great idea, although you might not be the first one to suggest such a thing : https://www.garyl.design/discord

Very good idea, I saw this in competitive app and it was so cool (I will not share name of app with you, because I can't remember, I saw it as ad on Facebook with slogan "Get rid of Discord" or something like that lol).
Me as a officer in one World of Warcraft guild, I will use it instead of in game calendar so people don't have to log in to the game and accept invite on raid and instead of it they can accept invite on Discord and I can easily check how many people are going raid in Discord app on my phone.

Is this resolve?

This would be immensely helpful, and I hope bumping it will get some developer attention on the idea.
I currently use Discord for a lot of tabletop roleplaying games, since my friends and I can't gather physically due to COVID. Coordinating the time and date of game nights in-app would be very helpful.
I could also see it being used by MMO guilds to coordinate the date and time of raid nights, so adding easy tracking of participants would probably also be very helpful.2 -
I would love if this were a thing.

I swear I just saw this happen. I have a small community server and I saw an event tab, so I was like Ooh lemme try this out. I typed in a whole description about it being an event and meeting about stuff in a stage channel and selected a date and time of when it started. I clicked create event and it wouldn't create. I pushed a back button and it said 404: Not Found under the title box. I did CTRL + R to restart Discord and it disappeared. Dunno what to do next.

Also I would love a screenshare option in Stage. That would be amazing.

I found it again in another server. It is as follows \/

This is what happens when you click on it \/

When you click create event \/

Start date box \/

Start time (Goes from 12 AM to 11:45PM) \/

This is what happens when you click 'Create Event' after filling out required boxes \/

Again, 'Create Event' on this page does nothing. Cancel cancels the event, and if you click 'Back' you can see under 'Event Topic' it states "404: Not Found" \/

When I restart Discord, the 'Event' option is just gone. \/

I hope this helps!

The Errors Above Don't Happen For Me. The Feature is there, but when the preview Screen comes up and I click on Create Event, Nothing Happens. I basically have to just cancel it, try again, only to not suceed.

Hey, quick question how do you set up that event icon thingy? I'm trying to add it to my server but I just can't seem to find it.
I would appreciate a lot if anyone can help me:)

Here is information about events.
Scheduled Events – Discord2 -
It says it's only available to partners but like P0PC47 was saying, I had the event tab / channel appear in my server and then it went away almost overnight!
It initially appeared locked to the top of my channels list... I know my server isn't huge (~100 members) but I was looking forward to leveraging that to hold voice nights/movie nights in my little queer discord server!
If we could get it back that would be great haha0 -
As someone who will never, ever, like ever use this because it's just plain useless to me;
How do I turn this off immediately, I don't want this, I don't want to see it and it bothers me already for the 10 minutes it's been on my server.
Why is it everytime there's a newly added feature it never comes with an option to turn it off from when it is added.. :/0 -
I do not want this, nor need this. Once again they keep forcing this stuff down our throats. It's like they want us to go to another program. At least give us a bloody toggle to disable the ruddy thing.

So far I like it, I think it could be useful to our small community. It would be nice to have the option to see who's subscribed/registered for the event. For now all it shows is the number of people, but we like to know who's coming, helps us decide what we're gonna do that night.

I can see this in one server but I can't see this in my main server help?
what I mean is I can make an event in my 2nd server but not in my main one anyone can tell me why I can't even see the button to make an event2 -
Ok, so I had a chance to try and execute an event the other night... annnd... it didn't work. It just gave me a "Permission Denied" error when i'd hit start event.
Also, apparently only the creator can start an event, no one else even can see the button. I'd like to see the following improvements:
- Let anyone or a specific list of users (or a role) be allowed to start the event.
- Allow the option for the event to auto-start as soon as anyone is present in the chosen voice channel at the appointed time.
- let us see who's subscribed to the event.

I like the event card post in a text channel idea! 👍🏻

It would be very useful if you could add a 'repeat event' feature. We have weekly events that we don't want to add every single time.
