Permissions for Threads

I'm not seeing any permissions related to threads on Desktop. I would expect permissions regarding:

  • Creating threads
  • Joining threads
  • Looking at threads
  • Managing threads

On both a per-channel and per-role basis.

    The 'Creating Threads' is currently tied to 'Send Messages'... which is asinine. What if I want people to not be able to message, but ONLY create threads?

    It's been a while since this post was made, but we've just had a problem with this in a server I'm in.

    I'm in the official community server for a video game, and that server has an LGBTQ+ thread within the off-topic channel. The thread was made by a non-mod user, and was intended to be a safe space for LBGTQ+ people in the game's community. However, the thread was recently found by trolls who come into it to spam slurs and bigoted “jokes” until they get banned by mods. They come back on alts over and over again, so banning the trolls only gets us so far. This has been ongoing for several days now, and several people are planning to make their own server just so that LGBTQ+ members of the game's community can have a safe space somewhere on Discord.

    This server has a level-up bot which gives users a role elevated permissions if they've posted enough times in the server. If the moderators were able to simply restrict the LGBTQ+ thread so that only users with this role could post on the thread, this problem would go away, as the trolls wouldn't be able to enter the thread to harass us. The fact that we have to make an entirely new server just because simple permissions aren't available to moderators on threads is completely asinine.

    MysticMismagius  I agree with you that thread-permissions should be expanded, but I also recommend raising the verification level to requiring a phone number, it should solve the problem of the same people returning constantly (has done it for me)

    I do understand though if that's not an alternative for you!

    I'm not a mod of the server, so I can't change that permission myself. I could ask the mods to see what they think and if that's an option for them.
