Addressing the phishing spam

Simplest solution:

Make a big list of common websites and whitelist them.

Ex:

  • Youtube.com
  • Reddit.com 
  • imgur.com
  • steamcommunity.com
  • discord.gg
  • discord.com

Every other site gets a massive red warning on click with a 5-second delay before letting you agree and pass through. I hate to baby people, but I really hate that the spammers are clearly making enough money doing this to ramp it up to such an extreme.

The warning should be like steam's warnings.

Every unknown website gets a large

"WARNING "example.com" Is not an Official Discord website!"

Every link should have a way to report it to discord. If reported frequently it is automatically flagged and gets a new warning like steam does.

 

Whenever there is a site that is certainly a phishing link, just now let the message appear for the receiver. Let them be unaware if it even worked. To the phisher, it looks sent, but the receiver gets nothing. You can log that and shadowban if they do it too many times.

Please deal with this. I enjoy being in support-related discord servers for programming and tech support, but that gets me lots of messages a day and half of them are phishing messages, the other half is split between victims and people who want help solving issues.

It's come to the point I've considered applying to discord to find a solution to this issue.

    I'm also an "IT guy who's gonna be contacted upon when something related to phishing happens" and, indeed, I think Discord should be a lot more into this shit. They don't do anything eventhough these phishing waves started long ago.

    I've made another suggestion related to this. Hopefully they see these threads and do something about it.

    Discord, phishing happens, you can do some things about it to make the platform safer. I can't even figure out why you haven't already.

    And yeah, I also hate to baby people, but waiting 5 seconds won't kill anybody. Plus, you can copy and paste the link on the browser if you feel specially brave or safe. Upvoted
