Discord changing emojis into text?

I'm trying to make a server with a lot of the channels having emojis in them but when i copy the emoji and paste it into discord, discord changes some of the emojis into text

    If you don't have a Discord Nitro subscription, you can't use gif emoji.

    iirc you can't add custom emotes to the channels unless u got Nitro which seems pretty stupid bc once a new thing comes out that wont be nitro
