This please! I run a small server, and was looking forward to making use of forums to streamline my reference channel. Organization is useful at any scale.

This would definitely be useful for everyone!
    Not just community servers.
As some one who's used the feature on one of my community servers while it was beta until now i was looking forward to getting to use it in one of my personal servers, and was very sad to see they weren't given to them.

100%. I run a very active but small server, and for several reasons I want to keep it private. Forums would help us immensely though. Why create this artificial distinction between community and private servers? Roll them out for everyone!

I totally agree. Discord should stop mixing public and community criteria.

Else community shouldn't exist and we should get this without community.

All friend-servers are communities, else people would just use group chats (basically speaking).

Locking this behind the community setting is disappointing as hell.  I have no reason to turn my guild discords into community discords. Guilds are already communities by default, that's kind of the point.  I was really looking forward to this feature too.

I hate having it locked behind a community setting. Its annoying- especially since I just have a group of 30 some people that want to share artworks they are working on; I even get flagged for sharing Non-NSFW images and I can't post things?

It's great for organization, and opting into channels you actually care about.

I also like to participate in writing things with my pals, and would be cool if we could make several threads without having to have the obligatory "community" setting. Some of us wanna keep things small and keep it that way!!

    Edit:
Not to mention; working in game dev and needing to be in certain sections... This is an excellent way of keeping up on things at a glance, as well as keeping a good informative post at the front of the Forum page for each section!

Please please consider unlocking this for non-community servers !

I think that, perhaps like many of you, I actually do have a server dedicated to "notes". A server only accessible to me, as a way for me to store a bunch of useful information across devices, accessible anywhere with internet, indexed by keywords that I define in the message itself. This makes it super easy to just use Discord's search functionality to find old stuff, without having to use any other program that is dedicated to this sort of thing, but manages to do it so poorly. Discord just so happens to work great with this.

So for example, a channel I have is a "3D resources" channel for Blender. Currently I am running into an issue where I would like to separate them into categories within the channel. Granted, sure, I only have this for myself. However, I use this as a very important tool to catalog useful information that has helped me or will help me in my studies.

Threads will work in the interim, but it would have been useful to just have a forum channel where I can store more complex information. Nevermind the fact that a forum channel can be useful for small servers that also want to categorize a bunch of information, or maybe use it as a tool for a DnD campaign, idk.

I would really benefit from this feature, made an account just for it.

We have entire channels and categories for organized discussions. a forum channel or two would be a fantastic and welcome addition. Please make this happen and if so, provide a timeline.

This feature should be for all types of servers!! No matter how small they are, it's basic organisation.

I have a server with my friend and we share resources on there and it would be SO much better organised if it was done with forums. Threads is meh. It's sectioned off sure, but the threads themselves still get messy. You can only write so much in one message so if you have to go back and update notes on a resource and there's no space you're only other option is to reply and make a new message, leaving it ultimately cluttered and harder to search for.

The ability to use forums would mean EACH resource has essentially their one thread, meaning that updating them isn't a problem. Things are easy to find and refer back to, especially with the feature of tags.

Friend servers ARE community servers, I still basically have to mod those servers. Give us an equal playing field.

Seriously, what's the harm. And how hard can it truly be, considering the feature is already accessed by some?

EDIT: I'd also like to add that forums would be useful even for my personal servers. I would find it so much easier and so much more organised.

I have a grimoire server that again with the resources would be so much more organised and I could easily make notes under each resources without all the clutter and faff. (I'm seriously not going to make a thread for each resource, plus there's a lovely max thread count that's looming over me.)

I also have a writing server for all my novel developments and having each novel as it's own forum with tags for each 'type' of planning (characters, setting, etc) would be SO useful to me.

All in all,, I'm desperately begging for discord to add this feature across the board.

I am looking to see this feature available to all users as well. For me, it's use is mainly for organising information for my writing projects. I already have thread-dedicated channels for this purpose, but the specialised UI that forums use is far more streamlined and helpful, especially with it's search and tag features.

Discord's utility as a tool for organising information is genuinely more appealing to me than any dedicated app I've seen for it. This is a simple change that would strengthen this value.

As others in this post have said, the forum system is a essentially a direct upgrade to thread-based organisation.

Seems that it was added recently. Could not find the official changelog about it.

    @Douglas

I'm not seeing this change on non community servers. How are you able to create them? Doesn't seem possible through the mobile app or Web page.

I looked into my four guilds where I can create channels.  Two of those have the option to create a Forum from that menu.  One is a very small sub-50 member group and the other is just over 200 members, so there's not really a rhyme or reason to it.  This might just be a slow rollout to everyone else.

  • Laurie Anderson

And those guilds are defiantly not community enabled?

Awesome. Very exited it's being rolled out. Thank you very much for looking!

The slow rollout would explain the fact that there was no announcement. Or maybe it’s because I have one boost?

None of my four guilds are community enabled, no.  I was very excited to see the option there too.  Hopefully more get access to it soon!

Havent got any forum availability yet, I've got a lvl 1 boosted server as well. so not sure what pattern there is if any, some official guidance would be great, unless I've missed an announcement?

    I received this update:

"Please note that it is not possible to have a Forum Channel unless the server is a Community server.

With that being said, if you change your server into a Community server and then disable it afterward, you will lose the features of being a Community server. "

So if forum channels are being rolled out to non-community server, the support team don't know about it, or are not at liberty to say.

Dang I got all excited at the prospect of having forum channels from the earlier posts. Why does Forum Channel access have to be restricted to community servers?

Forums would be such an immensely helpful organizational tool for all servers.

I submitted the following request to Discord and I was told that the only way to make this happen is to come here and upvote existing posts about the issue:

I am writing to request that forum channels be made available in non-Community servers. Currently, the information on forum channels states that they are now available in all servers, but this is not true. Forum channels can only be created in servers which are community servers. This is leading to server admin converting their servers into Community servers that they may not want to be community servers, or maybe even shouldn't be community servers, but it is the only way to get the forum channel feature at this point. I just converted yet another of my servers to a community server, even though it is "just a server for me and my friends" (as the guidelines on community servers state not to make a server a community server if it is "just a server for you and your friends") because I want forum channels in my server and I don't know how else to get them, and it doesn't make any sense for this feature to be gatekept, or reserved only for community servers.

Here is the response that Discord Support gave to my request above:

Sadly, the Forum Channels feature is currently only available to community-enabled servers, but if you would like to see changes to these systems in the future, then you can definitely create or vote up the suggestions at feedback.discord.com

It would really help us out if you upvote the idea since feedback contributes greatly to our decision-making of which features and fixes to implement in the future based on what our community wants.

Based on Discord's response above, I think it's super important that we all try to keep this issue consolidated to a single post and upvote it and any/all new comments. The more visibility this issue gets the better. If anyone finds other posts around this issue, please post the link to this post there and ask them to move their comments to this thread, or vice versa if the one you find has more upvotes and comments than this one. Let's try to get them all linked and work to get this issue on Discord's radar as best we can.

Upvoted it all. I check daily to see if this is rolled. Out. And every day I nearly make my server a community one to have access to this one feature.

It should be available for all servers.

My main server with my friends got access to forums even though it's not a community, same thing with a dead empty server. It really does feel like a slow roll-out but Discord hasn't said anything about it. Here's hoping Forums become a normal thing for all servers instead of being randomly deleted one day without warning.

Bump. Even for small guild servers that feature would be really welcome, waiting for it.

Bumping again. Every day I think how needed this feature is for all servers.

instead of forum channels, my server got Soundboards.

bruh. (I disabled that immediately lmao)

still waiting for forum channels :(

I am in a small roleplay server, too small and too niche to enable or benefit from Community. However, we would definitely benefit from forum channels, as those would allow us to separate each interaction with proper content tags, making our Discord experience smoother, safer and overall better.

  • Laurie Anderson

As above. One of the reasons I need it is for downtime actions and tags.

It would also be great if people in my server could submit and talk about issues neatly. Rather than threads.

It would be absolutely fantastic to get Forum channels, far and away Discord’s greatest feature, in every server. The second I can disable Community features in the server I’m building and keep my forum channels, I will.
