"Quiet Mention" Feature
Introducing a "Quiet Notification" feature for Discord could drastically improve the way we communicate within community. This function would enable users to send DMs or mention another user in a channel, without setting off a notification for the recipient. (push-notification or sound)
This becomes especially useful in situations where one wants to send a message or mention a user but doesn't want to disturb them, like during their sleep hours.
For instance, if I wish to share a song or a message with a friend in the middle of the night, the last thing I'd want is to wake them up with a Discord notification. With the "Quiet Notification" feature, I could quietly send them a DM or mention them in a channel, and they'd only see it the next time they log into Discord, without being disrupted by an alert.
The integration of this feature could be smoothly done through a command such as "/quiet [your message]" or perhaps a designated keyboard shortcut. In doing so, it ensures the recipient can discover the message or mention in their own time, helping to maintain their peace while also fostering effective communication.
Here's another practical scenario: I stumble upon a fun cooperative game late at night and I'd like my friend to download it before I wake up. Given it's 3 am and I'm about to go to sleep (and my friend went to bed at 10 pm), by sending a quiet message, I can rest assured that I won't disturb his sleep. My friend, upon waking up around 8 am, would then see my message and could start the download. By the time I wake up, they would have the game ready, and we could jump straight into playing. This "Quiet Notification" feature thus enables us to plan ahead without disrupting each other's routines.
