Add the ability to make messages in some channels act as @ mentions.
Not sure if this has been mentioned here or not, but as someone who does administrative duties on discord servers, the fact that I have to mute a huge amount of my server's channels else risk important messages falling into the background leaves me with few options but to do otherwise.
The server I admin on has a channel specifically for community complaints, and as such responding quickly to messages in this channel is imperative to my doing a good job as an admin. However, sometimes if I'm trying to play a game, I'm only left with three options:
- Mute a huge amount of channels to minimise background noise, restricting notifications to only important channels, but forcing me to mute/unmute many things every time I do.
- Go into DND, making sure my notifications don't block out the sound of my game (or for older fullscreen titles, entirely tab me out of them), but give up my ability to respond quickly and effectively to important requests.
- Just deal with a rapid stream of notifications distracting me, so I can actually be a good admin for once and do what I signed up for, when such important messages don't get buried of course.
Obviously all of these options come with their own problems, but I had the thought that there might be the addition of a fourth option via development. If we're provided the ability to prioritise entire channels to be marked as important, it could allow servers to be highlighted by the [1] that they usually would if I was @ mentioned simply because a message was typed in a particularly important channel. This would make it much easier to spot that something I should see was mentioned, and give a little flexibility on what can and cannot show up as mobile push notifications as well, given it would be channel-wide and not server-wide.
