It becomes pretty clear when you sort by comments, more that double all but the top three.

It doesn't make much sense that Quoting ranks second by Votes with >12k considering it's essentially one of the component features of threaded conversations...
I think the Discord people need to get their heads straight and realise there's a much larger opportunity out there if they think about supporting more than just gamers.

@zettel @drayzen if you look at the list of feature suggestions you will see that all but one of the features with higher votes than this were submitted by "Nelly"

I reached out to Discord support and they said that "we only migrated over any idea with over 100 votes" and what that means is that the issues posted by "Nelly" are the ones that were migrated from their old feature request system

The issue that I have with Discord on this is that I'm 100% sure that the previous "message threads" feature request had more than 100 votes.

Also it means that this feature request is the second most voted request on the new platform! Personally I believe that warrants a response from Discord about it but sure what do I know?

I haven’t checked, but is this listed on the Discord Support Trello or their support server chat?

I didn't realize they deleted the old thread on threaded messaging. I think it should be an alternate channel type. Have # for normal channels, the speaker icon for voice channels, then have a tree or a back (reply) arrow or a speech bubble in a folder for the icon.

What if you wanted to convert and existing channel? Would need to be an all or nothing.

I can't believe there isn't AT LEAST a reply feature. I tried to use this incredibly common functionality about 10 minutes after first installing Discord. I was really impressed at first but man it's getting incredibly annoying. Threading would be even better, likely, but just some sort of reply function. Good god it's insane that is missing. What was the thinking behind not at least being able to "reply"?

It is weird that this isn't a thing since loosing track of a conversation is one of the biggest problems. For instance if 2 different people write something and I want to reply to the first one. I will need to make evident that I am talking to that person in particular which is annoying. Please find a way for this!

Please please please add this feature!! Otherwise context gets lost into a sea of overlapping conversations! Pretty please !

This is the only thing that makes me go back to Slack for some communities. I am on the brink to move them to discord, but this is the only thing that is keeping me from doing it.

Implementing a Reddit-style nested comment system might be kinda weird for the developers, unless they just created a new channel type designed for exactly that.

What about a system where you could basically just direct a post at someone without actually pinging them? ... well, I guess that would basically just be typing their name before your post.

Heck, maybe just a thing where you can click/tap and hold down on a post so it'll automatically put the person's name in your reply bar? Like the thing I keep accidentally doing on mobile, but without the ping?

I'm not familiar with the apps you're referring to, so I dunno what you're actually asking for, and that might be part of it? I just want to make sure I understand the suggestion. (^_^)

just came here to voice my opinion. PLEASE DISCORD! We already love you, we want to love you even more!

Give us some threads. Conversations fade like winter leaves, when it could be so much better.

You guys can do it <3

Discord need thread to make chat message neat and accurate.

I agree. Especially when it comes to message management, there could be multiple conversations happening in a room and it is necessary to have in a room full of people but converstations can be lost and @mentioning people does help but it just looks really messy.

PLEASE add this, Discord. Discord is a rapidly growing platform, and with that comes larger servers and faster conversation. Threads would help facilitate better quality discussions in these situations.

Definitely a crucial feature that is locking us on Slack. Come on Discord!

I just started using Discord yesterday and, after using it for a while, I'm starting to get used to it, but...There is no branching (threads) ability.

Slack has it, and I think it's important because otherwise Discord channels quickly become fragmented, conversations are hard to follow to their conclusion, and the channels are essentially one-dimensional. It's just like a chat room and that sucks.

I would take the concept further than Slack, though, by offering multiple layers of branching, much like you see in forums, with menus to navigate.

In addition, I do NOT like that Slack makes the presence of branches so small. I would like to see a more obvious indicator of branches off a channel.

I use the word branch, as opposed to threads (which I've used for years), because it provides a better context than threads do. Threads can be part of a product, on a spool or unraveling or removed from a product.  It doesn't imply a connection between the main topic (of the channel) and the thread itself, whereas branch clearly implies that as there is no such thing as a spontaneous branch without a stem/trunk. ;)

At this point, we can live without branching, but we really will need it later for various reasons, so I'll move to a different app at that time. Honestly, though, we need it now.

On a related note, the feedback about quoting would be cool, too, but I don't agree that it's identical to branches

This feature request has finally made it to the first page of Chat feature requests when sorted by votes 🎉This is great work everyone that has up voted it. It also happens to be the request that has the most number of comments on the first page so it is clearly a very requested feature.

I'm surprised that there has not been a single response from Discord about this 🤔 I thought porting things over to this new platform for feature requests was supposed to make things easier for you to engage.

I think a lot of people who are following this feature request would appreciate a quick update to say "we know about this request and we're trying to figure out how to do it, but it won't be done in the next X months". The worst thing is that we just don't know what's going on

It is strange that Discord continues to balk at adding threaded/branched conversation.  It is the primary weakness of the product versus other alternatives.

    Please add.

  • NewAlexandria

I agree that Threading would give me more leverage to promote Discord for professional use.  Also, reading the comments about game-time, it seems that threading would enable faster coordination on short-term matters - without creating whole additional channels

    Bump. would love this feature.

How is this still not a thing? Like others said before me, threads is the one thing keeping me from completely transferring to Discord. I have a team I'd suggest use Discord, but using threads is vital for the group.

Bump. Why is not there yet. Considering switching to an alternative, cause no threaded conversations is a bummer.
