[IMPLEMENTED] [Suggestion] [Idea] Rename the existing 'Quote' to 'Reply' and introduce a new quoting chat system.
*EDIT: This idea has already been implemented to Discord as the reply feature. Thanks for all who supported this post! You can check out my other ideas, here!
Rename the existing 'Quote' to 'Reply' and introduce a new quoting chat system.
The current quote feature is very simple and limited, which allows you to right click someone's message, mentioning them in the process and than you can insert your reply to that person's message. I believe this feature's name should be renamed to "Reply" instead of the existing name of Quote.
Once renamed, Discord should reimagine this feature from the ground up and I have provided an idea on what could be different.
First, when you quote a user. It's really about showing what they said. Their words. And as it stands right now, you can do that, however, it can also be manipulated as anyone can just change the text of what the other person wrote originally.
That's why, if someone is quoting someone's message, I imagine something similar to Twitter's version of quoting a tweet. When you quote a tweet, the original tweet is embedded within your own. And if you click that quote tweet, you go straight to it.
When you're quoting a person within Discord text channels, a quote message should be a text box of sort. Where it will show a portion of the original person's message, unable to edit the message. In addition, using the copy message link feature Discord already has, add a hyperlink below this text box quote message so users can click it and see the entire message.
Lastly, the quote text box would not quote images. If a message has images attached, someone will have to go to the originally message to see them.
A visual example of this idea (imaged below):
(Note: I'm not good at graphic design. I tried my best to display the idea visually. Ideally though, the box above would be closer to the user's name, similar to regular text.)
I would also like to restate, although this was said before. Longer messages would only show a portion of them within the text box. If someone wishes to see the entire original message, they would have to click the hyperlink.
This idea includes a combination of other similar suggestions I've read about the quote feature while offering it's own unique system. I would love to see this implemented into Discord and I truly believe other users would appreciate it too!
Thank you, to anyone, for taking the time to read this suggestion.
I would love to hear feedback on this post!

Now that something like that was really implemented, I want to mention that it is not comfortable to go to message itself (and maybe load up more messages if it's not the last one) only to see what is it about if it's long enough to not fit into 1 line. It's just not visible now

zakski2 I disagree. I personally love the new reply system. It's so much cleaner and like I mentioned above, no one can manipulate what another person says. It may not fit all on one line like before, however I feel that would make the text really small.

I hope only you don't disagree with the fact that if message is long enough it isn't visible at all in the reply since that was the sole purpose of my answer.
Other than that is generally what I said... The message is too small now and if it doesn't fit into one line you've just one choice - live with it. If you want to read it, click it and if that was a bit before it will load you the message history up and you'll finally get what you wanted - read that message. It's not possible indeed to fit all message into one line, it can be quite long. Which doesn't mean it wouldn't be easier to read full message where the answer is written.
However who cares now? And who asks us? It's already implemented and works so click the quote if it's too long and load it up. The only thing that would work is making that reply be available for opening on click. So have it by default behave as now and if it's too long, click on it and it would open full text. I doubt anyone will bother doing that.

zakski2 Bro, you don't need to be so picky. Everything fits in one line? If a message is long, it doesn't fit into this "one line", nor if you speak consecutively, it's not "one line" either. You're just complaining on my post when you should make your own if you have something to say to Discord.
The reply system is so much nicer in my opinion. What they implemented is actually so much better than what I originally suggested. I enjoy every aspect of it.1
