Please note the image(s) I have attached to this post are not direct screenshots, but are screenshots edited with image editing software. I do not use BetterDiscord, but I have seen what it does as others use it. Much of this post is inspired by it.
Roles... are kinda hard to tell apart when you have a lot. There's only so many colours the human eye can differentiate.
And a solid colour for everyone, well, that may not be fancy enough for some.
This would add more variation, style, and flair to a server.
I haven't exactly said what I'm suggesting, though. So I'll do that now.
Gradient colour on usernames in text chat, gradient/solid colour "tags" (yes, both inspired by BetterDiscord) and animated gradients/colours. Animation could possibly be limited to Level 2 servers or something like that.
Below is a visual example.
As you can see, the usernames on the left are examples of static gradient usernames, with a light-blue to dark-blue gradient, rainbow gradient, fire gradient, gold gradient, and wood gradient.
On the right, there is an example of tags. Two are solid-colour (Pyromaniac and Big Daddy) and one is a gold gradient.
Gradients should be customisable. Tags should be attached to roles (giving someone the Big Daddy role would give them the Big Daddy tag if enabled)
One more thing: animated colour transitioning. A server admin could set up a solid-colour tag/username to scroll through a gradient of colours. This would not show the entire gradient, but the colour the "cursor" is on as it scrolls through it, looping. I'd show this in an image but I have no idea how to get GIFs working in GIMP.
These features could be limited to a server at a specific boost level to encourage boosting. There's only so many emojis you can spam, after all.
