Option to Suppress Notifications from Blocked Users
I don't mind the "Blocked Message" box in the chat--it helps me to keep track of when my friends are responding to the people I've blocked, so I don't get too confused by the conversation.
What I don't want is to be notified every time a person I've blocked says something. There ought to be an option to mute blocked users and suppress notifications specifically from them, without having to mute the whole server.

Please surpress notifications when a blocked user speaks. It's so annoying!

was the official reply to this that it simply wasn't doable? aka "we just don't have the technology"?

Not exactly. The community manager's reply was that the current notification system wouldn't allow it. In essence, in order to implement this feature the developers would have to redo (or at least heavily modify) the existing system. And considering how the notifications is a core piece of the platform, I imagine that's no small order.

Okay. It's kind of interesting though since this feature have been asked for since more or less the start of Discord.

There's got to be a way!

At lease let us disable the 'show message' option. Why wouldn't we be able to delete that ?2 -
How many years do we have to wait for such basic functionality?
3 -
Why is this still a thing? Just give users an option to prune the messages from the UI, leave it as is for anyone who still wants it as default? This is 2020, it can't be that hard to do.

I'm having the same issue. I don't mind the option to see what someone I've blocked says.. I just hate being notified when someone I've blocked says something in a public sever. I've blocked their presence for a reason. I don't want notifications when they open their mouth. I want to be able to choose my awareness of their presence..

Please. I don't want to see unread message notifications in a channel if a blocked user just posted. Please make it an option.

I solved this by installing BandagedBD (google it, I won't link here as I assume it's frowned upon) and then the plugin "RemoveBlockedMessages v1.1.1 by Devilbro" which also requires the plugin "BDFDB" by the same creator. Now the blocked users are entirely out of mind.
Time for me to finally unfollow this thread since Discord sure isn't going to do anything about it.-1 -
Yeah, but removing blocked messages completely is a bit overkill. I still want to be able to check what someone is talking about instead of 'talking to a ghost'.
1 -
Not at all overkill for me, but to each their own. Good luck with getting Discord to solve it.

Yea. I completely hiding blocked messages would be a nice option. It might make some conversations weird to be missing some messages, but should be a personal choice to hide them completely or not.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into it. I was considering looking into CSS manipulations but that would force me to use the web gui rather than the desktop client, and it'd really rather not.

Well, I was gonna make a post about this but apparently there's already a topic, so: this.
I would like two things:
1) the option to toggle whether the "x 1 blocked message - show message" notification shows up or not.
At the moment I can always look at blocked messages and for someone with poor impulse control like me this kind of defeats the purpose. I block people because I don't want to see their messages. In fact, I'd like to not be made aware of their presence at all. The current system feels like it highlights them instead, because their messages show up "different" from the rest.
I can understand that some people would like the option to see blocked messages, hence why the notification should be toggle-able.2) I would like not to receive a notification when a blocked person posts in a channel. Again, same argument as before, this just serves to highlight their presence when I'm trying to see them less. Here for example, I have someone blocked bc they post a lot in a channel I don't want to mute but only to complain about petty things. Most people don't even reply to them. I want notifications when other people are talking, but I don't want to be notified every time they post something petty that will largely go ignored anyway.
The fact that this thread is two years old is kinda disheartening, though :/ You'd expect a platform geared towards gamers - a community well known for having a lot of petty, aggressive, rude behaviour - to have better content filtering options.

I only realized this was a problem after I started joining more servers and blocking more people, and it's unfortunate to see that people have been having the exact same gripe for years. There's no way around it. I agree completely with Ammoth.

Please, please, please, I don't want notifications from blocked users. I don't care about the little message, but the notification is incredibly annoying.
3 -
How long do I have to wait till this is fixed? When initially joining Discord I thought this was a bug. But apparently it's a feature.

3 Years for this basic feature to be added. What's taking so long?

This is a completely obvious feature that I've wanted for years but the devs aren't interested.

So I opened up discord this morning to find a splash screen with a whole bunch of new features. It's kind of unbelievable they were able to make all these new features and not this simple request.

how come this still has not been added yet bruh

Guys, just do it!

Reported this as a bug, and was told "Sadly, this is the limitation of the current blocking system."
So, at least Paul from the help desk recognizes it as a deficit in the current functionality!
The cleanest solution, to my mind, would be not to count blocked messages for the purpose of showing a server or channel as unread, no need to proliferate options and checkboxes any further. But like a "text mute" on users, similar to muting channels and servers, would also fill the need.

If you're on a public discord with a very active clown user, this makes it just as bad as just not blocking them. Half the chat at times is "blocked message"
Discord, get your act together. I'll be ending my nitro subscription otherwise.
Edit: cancelled it now. 18 months of nitro, there you go.1 -
Funny that they say it's a limitation of their notification system, when all they have to do is to add an option CLIENT-SIDE.
And this can be done on mods like Aliucord. So yeah, Discord being Discord :/

This thread is 5 years old and this is still a problem. Why?
I really dont need to see this kind of thing constantly
