Hello there! If you’ve found your way to this Help Center article, you’ve likely gained access to a new mobile layout that we are testing with a limited number of users. If you’ve been using Discord for a while now, you probably noticed the mobile layout was designed to reflect the desktop layout. With this new iteration of Discord on mobile, we hope to make the mobile experience feel like it was optimized for your mobile device rather than a scaled-down desktop app. The new mobile design aims to simplify and improve the Discord experience for everyone by creating a more organized, more streamlined, and better-looking mobile app that helps you get to your chats quickly and easily.
We’re actively gathering feedback during the testing period to ensure that we continue to provide the best experience on Discord. Be sure to explore the new mobile layout and give it a heartfelt try. And if it doesn’t work, that’s okay — you’re welcome to turn it off and go back to the old look (more on that below), but we’d love to know how your experience went. If something doesn’t work for you, please let us know so we can continue to improve upon this new mobile app design!
This Help Center article will explain the core changes to the mobile layout, how you can provide feedback and thoughts on what does or doesn’t work for you, and how to opt out if you prefer.
What does this article cover?
What’s Changed?
Servers
In the new mobile layout, your servers are in their own dedicated “Servers” tab, located at the bottom-left corner of the app.
Once you open the “Servers” tab, you’ll see all of your servers at the bottom of the screen in a row. You can swipe left and right to scroll through your servers, or swipe up on the sheet to search through all your servers at once.
Tapping on a server will open it within the “Servers” tab and allow you to scroll through and open that server’s channels.
Messages
Your Direct Messages (DMs) and Group DMs (GDMs) are now located in a dedicated “Messages” tab of the app.
Activity Cards
In addition, you can now see the activity status of your friends at the top of the Messages tab in Activity Cards. These Activity Cards can show things such as:
- When your friends are currently in a Voice Channel in a mutual server.
- A game your friend is playing.
- If your friend is participating in any activity that supports Rich Presence, like listening to Spotify or watching something on Crunchyroll.
- Your friend’s Status, including their Custom Status
Learn more about your own Activity Status settings here.
Friends
Your Friends are now located in the “Messages” tab, via a ‘Friends’ button in the top-right corner of the app. Navigate to this tab when you want to view your friends list or add new friends.
Search
The single app-wide search bar has been replaced with more contextual search options in the new “Messages” and “Servers” tabs.
How to Provide Feedback
If you’d like to provide feedback on the new mobile layout, you can let us know what you think by navigating to “App Settings” → selecting “Appearance” → scrolling to the “New Layout” section → and selecting “Give us Feedback”. Let us know everything you think about it!
How to Opt Out of the New Layout
If you would like to go back to the previous Discord mobile layout, you can choose to opt out of this experience in your settings page. Navigate to “App Settings” → select “Appearance” → scroll to the “New Layout” section → turn off the toggle for “Show New Layout.” If you end up opting out, please take a moment to provide feedback on the experience and let us know why you did so.
