[New Feature - Request] Raise Hand Icon | Button - Clan Meetings
[New Feature - Request] Raise Hand Icon | Button - Clan Meetings
when having clan meetings, once a month or so. At times there are a lot of members in the discord voice and in order to properly maintain order, less confusion, people talking over each other.... Request option for a button to "raise" hand. It will show in a queue of who is next in line who wishes to talk on the current discussion to be voted on etc. There is a program called Paltalk that hosts several debate style voice chat rooms and they use this feature - check it out for a model example of what we need......
Many wont even realize they know they need this, until they read what I've written.... So I hope this does not get overlooked because people don't know what to search for etc...

I really need this feature! I do podcasts and this would help tremendously

This feature would make D&D online SOOOO much easier
15 -
indeed it would be very very useful for those who are teaching on Discord, or handling meetings or webinars with interactions from viewers...
Could you please, dear Dev, help us with that feature? It would be a major update, and you'd be rivalizing against the great and mighty Zoom.inc :P

The only thing I like about Paltalk is their raise hand/que feature for debates. My college uses discord for chat in our online classes. A raise hand/que feature for debates would be world changing. People have been asking about this for years.

I agree,
the raise hand feature is what I like best about paltalk. There is just so much ads and spam on their, I think its taking over my computer with malware.I do however like the categories channels feature though... That kind of setup is nice... I really can't stand how to look up all these random discords though. I really dont like how they have things organized. it drives my ocd crazy

Yes please, I think it could be easy to implement and very usefull for many. Im following.

This would be an absolutely amazing feature for many.

Be sure to share this thread with everyone you know, and they share, and those people share, etc.
11 -
Very good, I like it, and it’s needed!
10 -
I support this when doing meetings of more than 5 in a voice channel.
9 -
All need it but it seems devs don't care it...

As somebody using Discord for education-related services, this would be totally game-changing!!
7 -
This would be a fantastic function, not only for gaming but for other kinds of conversations! A lot of different kinds of groups are using Discord now and hand raising would be fantastic! Please give us this!!
6 -
Valexz...some of us know that, and that is not what we want.
4 -
This would be awesome, we need it!

Upvote everyone's requests and comments!

Devs please, This would very clearly be an extremely useful tool for many users. One of the selling points of Clubhouse, is this very feature. Sorta dissapinting this post got so much support 2 years ago and nothing came out of it

Devs. This is a SUPER IMPORTANT FEATURE. This will enhance the Discord experience and improve the quality of life a lot. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE.

I think discord kinda screwed the pooch in how they designed the new raise your hand feature. It doesn't organize as much as it isolates discussion.

I agree.... What they were going for is a poor design. Everything should be seen on one page. Here example (could use maybe a slightly better look) - the idea / structure is there for what I want it to be like.

Vexbane Yeah, I used to use Paltalk. I hear it's mostly scammers now though.
I made a new post about this.

In comparison discord's design is horrible. There are too many problems with it that make it a convoluted mess. It is not simple nor is it intuitive. The raised hand feature should be more visible to whoever is moderating the server from a list of names not some button that you have to click on before you approve a particular person to come to the microphone...
One of the problems is that sometimes conversations or debates going on like this that would allow for raise hand feature don't necessarily need someone to manually unmute them. Even with large audiences people are generally respectful of speakers. You could also force the channel to be pushed to talk with no open mic. With priority speaking those that have the moderator role- no one would be able to talk over them or break the discussion if they were to trying to get to the microphone. Another way is to only allow for one person to speak at a time so if one person is speaking if anybody tried to jump in and talk over them it would not be possible..... Allowing for an open room type discussion without the need to have everybody muted... It would just be push to talk and a queue system that is visible to all and when the moderator tells them the next person in queue would take the microphone.
You also cannot engage the audience that is not speaking through any kind of text means in discords current setup... Their names are not visible unless you're clicking on a certain thing.
I have used many of these type of programs and always have disliked discords design for roles permissions and organization. It is a very convoluted system in a lot of ways. (there was a program many years ago called curse-voice that sold to twitch and became the twitch app with voice like discord... it had much better design, permissions / controls but twitch did away with it) Paltalk.com is one of the programs I have used for many years which handles chat rooms like I am talking about very well.
They didn't even really need to make a new voice channel they could have worked this into what they already have that exists. In the voice channel itself everybody is listed by names... You could have some button somewhere that is your raise hand... When your hand is raised it could put your name at the top of that list with a little emoji raise hand icon on your name to indicate you want to speak.... It would put you in queue based on who clicked the raise hand icon first... Simple basic no fuss.... The only downside to this setup is the fact that there is no text channel in the same interface.... But you could just have a text channel under the category with that voice channel that everybody clicks on to read everyone's messages

Vexbane You're talking about smartphone design? Because in PC is nothing like you're talking... It's very clear, if I may say. If you wish to explain better, I'd be glad, because I can't see where your complains about Discord's design come from.

Tebaldi
no, not talking about smartphone design.
yes, in pc there is something like I am talking about. there has been for many years, that I have used.
I had just posted a picture of it above your post.... I will post it here for you again, to see.

This would unblock us for our business use cases.

This feature would be really valuable for how my server uses discord. I have considered using the new stages feature but then we can't use video and I value that feature more than having raised hands but I would LOVE to have both, thanks!
