Discord gives me 5000ms ping
So I'm getting this really weird issue where my internet will be fine, everything's working, but Discord and only Discord will say that I have 5000ms ping when I hover over the "Voice Connected" panel on the bottom left. I can hear everyone else fine, but they can't hear me. I'm not sure what's causing this - I started pinging Google to see if my internet was the problem, but it's sub 100ms there. It happens often, and it's ALWAYS at 5000ms. People will hear me talk for a bit when I get into calls, and then it's like Discord assigns this to me after the fact.
Is there a fix for this?

im having the same exact issue... it started yesterday and I'll be fine for a bit but then I'll go to 5000 ms. Did a ping and internet speed test and they are great. I also have an ethernet connection so I am not really sure what to do.

The only thing that worked for me, after having tried all the “fixes” i could find online, was to literally fully reïnstall windows and buy a new windows key, even resetting to factory settings hadn’t worked for me. It’s been working great ever since then (which was a few months ago). The problem for mee seemed to have been a bad windows update which somehow still caused the issue even when I reverted it. I know this might be a very annoying thing to deal with for many people but I didn’t mind losing my files and so I just did it. Hope it helps!

I think I found a solution or an alternative.
I started using Discord on the browser and it's working fine so far.

@Drivaro
Is this „fix“ still working for you? Its the only thing i actually didnt do but would give it a try if its the only solution...

@Vinsmoke
Yeah im on the webbrowser version for about 3 months now... but it kinda sucks tbh... Discord needs to adress this problem asap.

@alekz
I haven’t had anymore problems with discord since reinstalling windows, so I would say it’s definitely a permanent fix.0 -
I had exactly the same problem. I solved it by turning off Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority in Settings > Voice & Video.

Turning IPv6 off is a *bad* idea. If you have native IPv6, latency should not be an issue. In fact, Apple and LinkedIn say that IPv6 performs better than IPv4.

The only solution that I found was using a VPN.

I dunno who said re-installing windows would fix the issue, but it definitely didn't.

Hey, i had the same problems for almost 8 months. I tried nearly everything. I asked the discord Support multiple time for help and after a while it got clear that my computer couldn't be the issue and it had to do somthing with my internet connection or with my Router settings:
So here is how i fixed it. It was the Router for me. I had it for rent via the Telekom, it was the speedport w925 and the only way to fix it was to use another Router model.
I don't want to tell you to switch your Router.
I think that the 5000 ping issue is more like a symptom with a lot of different causes and finding out what the problem is is the hardest part.1 -
I finally could fix it for me... Had to switch my Router aswell. Was using a Telekom Smart 3 Router. Switched it to a fritzbox 7590 - problem never occured again (testing it for about 1 1/2 months now)

TLDR: This issue seems to be with Discord and specific WiFi routers. For me, this is only a problem for Discord, not Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
When plugged into the same problematic router with ethernet there are no voice issues on Discord. The WiFi issue is not signal strength or too many devices on WiFi.
My router where the WiFi is an issue is a TRENDnet AC2600 (TEW-827DRU). Stay away from this router. The solution that worked for me was to buy a new router, WRT-3200ACM.
If you would like to troubleshoot this, Wireshark is good for monitoring lost packets. The bad router had about 25 packets lost per minute while the new router has about 2 packets lost per minute on wifi.

For me router settings fixed this after months of issues. Used to have the issue happen everyday but now it has worked for a few days in a row after some settings tweaking (fingers crossed...). I believe it was specifically enabling QoS settings that did the trick, although I also enabled UPnP so I guess it could be a combination of the two.
I have a lower end Asus router.
Edit: could also add that I have exclusively been using a wired connection and never WiFi
Asus RT-AC57U

okay so guys i found a solution for this
i had the issue where i couldn't hear others but others could here me
so some say disable your upnp of router
to do this(for D-link router) go to192.168.0.1
enter "admin" for both name and pass
and go to wan settings in network from advanced
and disable upnp there
or some few guys said enabling your qos did the work for them
fo to ''qos'' wich is in "firewall" and enable it
(i did this one as my upnp was already disabled and it's working fine for 30mins)
there were the only two major working solutions i found after reading hundreads of comments from you guy
SO I HOPE THIS LONGASS PARAGHRAPH AT LEAST HELPS ONE OF YOU GUYS LIKE ME
Thank you1 -
Hello, this worked for me.
Can you try modifying the following settings in Discord to see if your performance improves at all?:
- Disable H.264 Hardware Acceleration under User Settings > Voice & Video
- Toggle the "Use our latest technology to capture my screen" setting under User Settings > Voice & Video-1 -

I'm having the same problem, when I launch a game after playing for a while and being in a discord voice channel, I start hearing the others sounding like a robot, and they hear me sounding like a robot. I've tried pretty much every suggestion that I can find on the internet.
Can someone from Discord chime in on this and maybe give us some tools or explain how we can debug our issues and analyze what's going on to try to figure out what's going on?0 -
Had the same issue at 5000 most of the time but once it went to uhh... 223 million

This has been happening to me since this week.
Everything will be working fine, no stutters or robotic sound, and then I realize I can't hear anyone. I disconnect from my server and reconnect. That seems to fix the problem for a while until I realize I can't hear anyone again. Happens about every half hour maybe?
I have a wired connection. I seem to average 20 ms on Discord.
My internet speed is:
309.2 mbps download
11.3 upload1 -
This has been happening to me for over a year, and I can tell you for a fact it is a network problem, it isn’t from discord. I connect my pc to my router and my ping shoots to 5000, but then I switch my connection to another WiFi and discord works just fine. I really don’t know the solution to this
