Fix Phone Verification
My account asks me to verify by phone nearly every other day. I have two factor authentication enabled. I connect from the same devices. Nobody else has logged into the account. I have not used a new device. Regardless, I continue to be asked to do the same phone verification over and over. Today, the verification told me "This phone number was recently used on a different account." The phone was definitely not used for a different account since I last verified. The only thing I can think of is that Discord flagged the phone to not be used after I used it two days ago, and the time length still hasn't expired, so now I have to use a different phone to verify the same account.
Discord needs to fix this phone verification system immediately, otherwise those of us that use Discord on a regular basis will need to switch platforms to ensure that we aren't disrupted during an event. I personally use discord to communicate with a guild. Many people I play with regularly make new accounts to get arround these verification problems. If I cant find a proper resolution I will be creating a Matrix server to provide all of us with an alternative platform that doesn't constantly have problems. Currently, I would need to purchase a new phone number to get my account verified, and the cost of doing so would be more money than paying for a Matrix server. So, from my perspective it is more affordable to leave Discord. The only reason I would not leave discord is to save other people the hassle of switching platforms.
I have opened, and will continue to open support tickets. So far, the support has been unhelpful in resolving this issue, and I expect that they will continue to be unhelpful. It is likely that support does not have the resources to correctly fix the verification problems, because they are problems in the way the platform is programmed, not problems that can be fixed with the type of tools available to support staff.
Hopefully other people can post to say that they have had similar problems. I've personally communicated with many. I might see if I can rally up a bunch of people to make this really apparent that it's a real issue and not just a random complaint. I understand that discord wants to get phone numbers to tie to the data they gather on their users, and I also understand that they want to keep spam and hacking minimized, but it is working against their own interests to lock out legitimate users from accounts, especially when users like myself have 2FA enabled and working.

A really easy fix and I feel like something that should be implemented is for the person who is getting the text message to unlink all accounts from the device.
But I too have this issue and I really need to get it resolved.

Sad to see that this is still a problem after 3 years. i just got nitro subscription on my account and now im not able to use discord.NICE!!! very good work DISCORD TEAM.

if this is not fixed, im charging a chargeback and suing discord for this. this is a full time job for many big server admins and when this happens to them they can loose their job.

This same thing happened to my personal alt that I use for non business, and I lost it for no apparent reason, so I had to make an alt for my alt. That account that got caught in the Phone Verification loop which I cannot retrieve due to the fact that my phone is already being used for my main account. Please fix this if possible, I have been hosting a server that requires regular updates that I cannot access, and there are no mods that I appointed to give this account access due to the server being in it's infancy.
I hope this issue continues to draw more attention, as it is affecting many legitimate users in negative ways, and there are only so many times people can open tickets for the same problem.

I payed for nitro wit the money i saved up on my paypal acc for so long. like 2 weeks ago i got locked out bc of this then i asked my mom for her phone number then i was in my acc again then today i got locked out again bc of phone number verification and i cant access it i hav a growing server ppl dming me for trades and i got nitro 2 days ago dis is gon waste my nitro time someone pls help.

I got a email saying the phone number was added to a diff acc i didnt add it to another acc now im perm locked out of my acc

after changing password i see the same issue.. When i enter the code that is sent my phone i see the message " the phone number was recently used used on a different account". Discord should fix this asap this a critical bug which does not allows user to login for ever unless user creates another account with new phone number

Please , REMOVE THE VERIFICATION PHONE Now my account is locked out over the same issue here , I tried to use my phone number and IT LITERALLY SAYS THE PHONE NUMBER WAS RECENTLY USED ON A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT?! , stupid spam , even though I'm not a bot usually spams FREE NITRO I JUST SPAMMED "ME" 7x, Mmminecrafter this verification really fu**** up for 1-2 years for real.

your work around is not secure, temporary unless you have two phone numbers, and shouldn't be necessary if they allowed the person receiving the text messages to unconnected all accounts from their number, given that, it's their number that is being used for verification.
Also, I'm talking about it like it's not a bug. This occurs after signing in to multiple devices on the same account. So if you have a desktop and a phone this issue most likely comes up for you, especially if you try to log in through the QR scanner.
This is such a ridiculous bug, not sure why anyone gives Discord money, it's sort of laughable.0 -

I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER TO THIS ISSUE MY BABES!!! Ok so i was experiencing the same issue and ofc no one from support was supporting me so ya know had to work it out myself. anyways step 1. Go to account setting and DISABLE account. 2 open private browser and log into Discord with your existing phone# instead of username or email address. once in its going to ask you to verify your email address. If you have a secondary email use that address(if not, make one). A verification link will be sent there. Verify it. Then log into Account setting and REMOVE phone#. ALMOST DONE BABES! close this private browser log back into the disabled account and add phone#. code should be sent to phone and all is good. Let me know if this helps :D

i have the same problem discord 2fa sucks i will be using steam chat from now on bc they have a goof 2fa unlike discord if i waited a day or 2 i could log in but if i tried to delete my password it asked me for a 2fa but it had the sme problem from your number is connected to a difrent account

This issue has been going on for over 2 years now. It's clear Discord just doesn't care. I think they've actually made enough money from us to feel that our opinion doesn't matter anymore 😒

I believe that sms cards, can easily be hacked by others, who could be hackers in this case, as it doesn't really matter about the 6 w's, in this case, many might agree, with my claim's, in this case, that I am referring to so far, however, there are still those that don't,, agree to my claim's, that I am making here as is, so, to those who do not, agree to my claim though, let's do a lill scenario then shall we, a lill what would happen scene in this case then, ok, so, what would happen, if in this case, as to those, who say that, if the verification process is still in effect, well then, what say they lose their phone, and need a new one, in which they will very likely, be needing a new phone number to add to it as well, then in this case, that number is unrecognized by the people, who are in charge of Discord, as the old phone number, that to those who say that, verification is a must, in this case, will soon realize that it very much isn't, so either way you put it, verification or not, we need to remove the phone verification or at least, let people choose to, use e-mail or phone, as well as letting those who wish to use phone as well, allowing them to use whatever number they deem, necessary, for Discord, and not limiting them to standard number's, or phone's that very few happen to have, so far, as hacker's, can hack anyone who is on Discord, anyway you put it, no matter what.

I also need help, I wanna talk in a server where I have to verify my phone numba so,when I complete all the steps till it tells me to give me my password it...sort of works..?,it brings me back to the first screen with an additional button, in red right down below the phone number text field it says "remove number" and when I click it and give it my password it deada** just backs out and does nothing,0,nada niet ( U get my point) and then when I go BACK to that screen,the thing is gone and it looks like nothing happend

Same thing here, 2 YEARS and nothing done, I use another number but inmediatly as I try to remove my number for privacy reasons, same problem again. That is so neglictive, pal and irresponsable by discord.

Alright, so I'm having similar issues to what yall are experiencing right now and it's horrible so let me explain how this all happened and why I'm in this situation.
It all started when I went on my other alt account which wanted me to verify the account with a phone number at this time I did not know you couldn't use the same phone number on multiple accounts and it had disconnected my phone number from my main account so I went back on the account that I had added that phone number to and it isn't my phone number it's my moms because my phone number had got banned I guess along with my account I think the reason because of that is that someone had possession over it well no my account token and phone number they got one of my alt account ban and they permanently banned my account that had a phone number linked to it which was mine but I'm not complaining about it but my moms phone number cmon now soon as I removed the phone number off the alt account I added it to I had tried putting it back on my main account and it literally says "this phone number was recently used on another account" and no one has access to it but me so I'm assuming they had flagged the phone number because I think they had detected that the phone number was being used on too many accounts when I only used it on my alt and main but it had disconnected the phone number from my main so I had contacted them so I'ma see what they say but Idk man I contacted them about my original phone number that had got banned they didn't say nothing or looked Into it and I never got a response but I also read if you're account gets ban and phone number it doesn't mean you can't start all over and make a new account I didn't have my original phone number linked to my main account it was my moms phone number until I decided to add it on a different account and now I'm locked out on both of my alts and it asking me to verify it with using a phone number lol
So yeah there's my story I have been apart of discord for so many year's I do not want to lose my account I have subscribed with nitro too I don't have to lie about this discord can literally check the account status and everything I wish we can like make this a trend or something so discord can see this and fix it like bro and you wanna know something skype is literally so horrible I do not want to go back they're that's where I came from before discord there's like ip pullers and all that I mainly use discord for to like communicate with my friend's that I either met on the game or tryin to join some youtuber discord server that I look up to and want to support so yeah I'm literally panicking right now because I saw people sayin soon as they finally like got done with this issue discord just deleted they're account and I do not want that to happened to me
as I been apart of discord for so many year's as I said before I don't have to lie about it they can check my status I been with discord for 4-5 year's maybe less but still year's so please if anyone have any close contact with one of the discord staff member's tell them can they look into this for other's (Including me)2 -
Reaching out to support literally yields tone deaf responses, my main discord account now is tied to my wife's cell phone number because they flagged my real cell number as invalid (even though I've had this number for over 10 years). Not sure what the deal is, but it makes me wish I hadn't brought so many people over to this platform even though it's awesome. This particular issue of me not being able to use my real number on my account is shameful in my opinion. It really shouldn't be this hard, and I've never had any issue like this on ANY other website/social platform.
