Suddenly cut off in text chat

I was in the middle of a text chat with someone from a shared server (not a Discord friend).  Suddenly, Discord started disallowing my text messages.

We are both on the same server still.  I am pretty sure they had no reason to block me.  The only anomaly is that I was down to about 3 hours left on a 24 hour server timeout (the shared server).  We were able to initiate the chat with no issues and chat for an hour.  Then Discord decided to get obstructionist.  What is going on?  Was Discord just super late revoking chatting privileges due to the server timeout?

  <vent> This sucks.  I have no way to contact them for a couple more hours.  They are going to think I ghosted them, which I totally did not. >:(   </vent>

  This happened again.  Different person.  Same problem.  Literally mid-conversation and suddenly messages are not being allowed.  What the hell is wrong with Discord?
