Linux - Screen Share Sound Support
With Screen Sharing sound already supported on Windows, I would like Screen Sharing to be supported for Discord on Linux as well.
Gaming on Linux exists and does relatively well despite what many naysayers think or wish to believe and having this support for users such as myself would make this less frustrating.
(Not to mention that we're not even mentioned in the supported platforms art along with the other logos at the bottom of the site's webpages...)

It's so annoying you cant simply choose an audio source for the stream. I get no audio at all.
This is not even complicated to implement. You're able to choose a video source, just add an option to choose an audio source too.1 -
From my memory, people asked in the github, that then pointed at electron, people asked electron, they pointed at chromium, people asked chromium, chromium gave a workaround and won't fix it.

How is something so basic still an issue? This is honestly embarrassing.

Please add this. This is the Mainreason why I am currently not on Linux, but well, fuck this. I am using other alternatives now to discord for screenshare.

the fact that it has been more than four years since issues with screensharing on linux have even been acknowledged is absurd. maybe with the release of devices like the steamdeck there will be more incentive to work on this?

so, we're 4 years in and yesterday I tried to stream a game, everyone complained that I didn't have any sound, took me an hour of fiddling with Soundux, and special config to get the audio to stream, over my microphone, so nobody could hear me, another 30 minutes of fiddling with "can you guys hear me? Is the volume okay?". Why are we still living in the dark ages on Linux when the Steam Deck is looming and Linux gaming is (hopefully) about to take off in a big way?? What gives Discord?

Gonna post in support as well. It should certainly be possible, and even easier now, with wayland/pipewire being usable now. They just updated their version of electron the other day to 13, so they can definitely make this happen as they aren't on some old out of date version anymore.

With the Steamdeck upon us, this feature should be supported sooner rather than later, or a bunch of early adopters are going to be extremely frustrated with their brand new gaming machines.

I asked a dev about this a couple days ago on this subreddit, and they didn't seem to really know if it worked or not. They said:
One thing to note is that our screen capture stuff is not using the built-in electron one, but instead using webrtc (the C++ library) directly (well, with our own additions too.) We upgraded to M89 in May, which should have pipewire 0.3 support. This may be as simple as flipping a flag on, but I'm not an expert on this by any means.
It works in Firefox, so there must be something they don't have enabled for it not to be working. They also said it should have pipewire 0.3 support, but as far as I can tell it's not enabled. I'm not really sure how to make progress on this issue at this point.

Good catch on that comment. Worth noting that screen share will crash the client if you have Pipewire installed. Maybe there's some work being done behind the scenes there?

If only they would open the source we could fix this for ourselves. 😇

+1. I have been using Linux for a while now and with the upcoming release of Steam Deck and it's potential for making Linux a viable gaming platform, I think having audio streaming and proper integration of Pipewire will make everyone happy.
For audio sharing maybe using JACK Audio Connection Kit might help. It's currently my only way of sharing audio from a game to my microphone.0 -

With the steam deck coming around the corner this feature really needs to be implemented. Commenting to keep activity up. We need this.

Yes! Come on, I understand it can be a bit complex, but it's such a stone age issue. From a user perspective it's unfathomable that video transfer works, but no audio!
