Linux - Screen Share Sound Support
With Screen Sharing sound already supported on Windows, I would like Screen Sharing to be supported for Discord on Linux as well.
Gaming on Linux exists and does relatively well despite what many naysayers think or wish to believe and having this support for users such as myself would make this less frustrating.
(Not to mention that we're not even mentioned in the supported platforms art along with the other logos at the bottom of the site's webpages...)

I am really disappointed in you Discord. How can it be that you want to expand as a company and you can't even "afford" to fix a problem that for you would be simple and profitable?
I moved to Manjaro 3 months ago and before moving to Manjaro the people I know who are here were telling me about the amount of problems that Discord has on Linux and that you are just turning a blind eye to this issue. It is not even too much to ask that they fix all the bugs that Discord handles, we are only asking that they support Linux because here we also have the right to be heard and to use their application comfortably. So I don't know how many times you have been told this but please, fix this because it is a fundamental action, watch a series, show a game with its audio because we liked the background music.
A little consideration with those of us who use Linux, it seems discrimination this...0 -
They still haven't implemented it.... What a lazy company and what a shitty program. I'm very disappointed.

Not lazy, but OScist.

Yeah not having any acknowledgement whatsoever is just disgusting.

In the past 2 months I've been messaging them on ig from now and then to add this feature and no response yet.

Bump - Popular OS distributions use PulseAudio and it (should) be possible to detect what application PID belongs to what audio input sink.

I would love to not have to boot into Windows for this, I want to move to Linux full-time and this is pretty much the only thing bothering me at the moment (I may find another thing in the future)

This is not possible right now due to limitations of Chromium (which Electron is based on).

It is already possible, even from the Electron side ARegularDiscordUser

It is possible, however it requires a bit of a workaround. More about that can be found here:

this is a very important feature for anyone who uses discord for other things than game screen sharing as well.
i like sharing music work with people i do music with, and others in here mentioned gamedev as well, i can see that, especially if you work with audio for a game, really should'n have to be a thing to transfer big files of game demos just to demonstrate a sound design or feature in games.
this really needs to be taken care of, saw someone say that it's been 4 years since it's last been acknowledged, i'm honestly surprised that no one have made a linux version of discord yet. A real version, not just a web app version.0 -
+1 I had to switch an older laptop to linux (as I am living away from home temporarily for work and I dont have my desktop) because Windows was getting too intensive for it and navigating windows was painfully slow . I'd really like to be able to stream the little linux games Im playing and show friends (admittedly the laptop cant handle anything not 2D, but it streams the screen just fine). But without sound it's kinda pointless.
Please add support for sound, even if it just streams all system sounds outside of Discord voice calls. That'd be really helpful.
You could even mandate that users use a specific audio mixer for thier systems. Linux users will help eachother learn how to install it.

This is the most upvoted Voice and Video feedback by a long shot, it'd be great if we could get an official response to this.

Response from Discord Technical Support
Hello, Bodmi!Thank you for reporting that there is no sound in the Linux environment during the demo. Unfortunately, audio transmission is currently not supported on Linux systems. However, the link you provided is not a discussion thread, it is a page with a request to implement an idea on our feedback site.
You can support the idea with your voice, as well as supplement it with comments.
We hope that this request will not be ignored by developers, and over time this idea will be implemented by developers, since all innovations are implemented precisely by popular vote! :)
Please let us know if you have any questions. We will be glad to help you!
All the best,
Anton0 -
