I know you've got nerds pushing for it within the company, but I don't want to have to move all my stuff to slack because you fell for this scam that makes the world worse in every possible way.

I don't have anything particular to add that hasn't already been said, but just don't so it. NFTs are dumb and useless and getting into them is just going to alienate people and make you look foolish when the bottom completely falls out of the whole thing.

Absolutely do not start with NFTs Discord. There is no question i'll stop paying for nitro because its absolutely not worth feeding into a pyramid scam in the slightest. Skype would be the better platform if Discord engaged with the crypto market and I don't mind saying that in all honesty. The empire Discord has built will mean nothing because of how severe so many of your users feel about this money laundering scheme, despite the laws now surrounding it. Don't even skirt around the possibility of it Discord.

I’m gonna cancel my nitro if they don’t reverse course now. NFTs are a money-laundering scam rabbit hole and I’m not following down it.

One of the things that makes Discord stand out as successful over alternatives is that Discord *has* a working revenue model. That's important.
Some places are jumping on the blockchain ponzi scam in the hope of getting revenue where they currently don't. They won't, not in any kind of sustainable manner, and it will end badly for them and the environment — but it's not too hard to see why they could think it might be worth a try.
Discord, do not do this. You have no need to do this. We need you to be better than this, and you are capable of being better than this.
As for Nitro, yes, you've lost my recent subscription too. But it goes both ways. Reverse this direction and make clear commitments and statements against employing any NFT or PoW blockchain, and I'll switch my sub to annual.

+1 to all that, or, _at the very least_, wait until Ethereum finishes its switch to proof of stake. It would still be a terrible idea, but at least it wouldn't be actively causing so much environmental damage.

There is no good that will come of integrating blockchain into Discord. None whatsoever. Several communities I'm part of will likely migrate off of discord entirely if this change goes through.

If discord adds support for NFTs and crypto, I WILL cancel my nitro sub. Discord is the only site/service I pay for willingly and because I love and use the product. If NFTS come to discord, I will begin the process of moving my personal, professional, and community servers elsewhere. Not only are NFTs and crypto a complete scam, but discord is also a KNOWN vector for crypto and NFT theft. Even the grifters and crypto bros admit this! You will be disappointing a huge majority of both discord users and discord employees if you move forward with NFTs. Shame on you, discord.

Do not do the Crypto thing Discord. I will not hesitate to go back to IRC even if I have to pay to host my own server in AWS. Probably won't be a huge ding to my budget after considering the money I'll save from not paying for Nitro.

All the biggest dirtbag corporations are coo-coo for crypto, no matter how much crypto guys lie that it's better than all the pollution & shady deals those corporations were already doing before.
If you choose to not be crypto dirtbags, I would be pleasantly surprised.
But maybe you'll try doing this again one day, and you'll be more sneaky next time.

I cancelled my subscription 30 minutes ago because I am incredibly fed up with companies trying to buy into this stupid NFT/crypto BS. I've been using Discord for 4 years now and seeing them slowly give into something like this is just maddening. I really really hope they listen to the backlash but I doubt it if they're gonna end up making $$$ with NFT's.

Hard same. I have not yet canceled my Nitro because it will impact communities I manage but if discord proceeds with any sort of blockchain play I will definitely be migrating those communities to Matrix. It is not even remotely ok to be destroying the planet so that a couple of techbros at the top of the pyramid scheme can make a buck or two.
You want to support artists? COMMISSION SOME DAMN ART. Nifty's don't anything useful for creators.

Utterly stellar work. Self-immolation is relatively rare in the United States, but I can see you're committed to bringing it back in a big way!
You know, usually when someone sends up a "trial balloon" like this, they don't double, triple, and quadruple down in the replies. Just another example of the clarity and vision investors and executives of Jason's caliber bring to the table. It may look like drooling insanity to the masses, but those people will never understand what institutional and corporate investors value most: in-development features announced in a hip-fired tweet from the CEO of the company in response to an internet commentator who wears sweaters over dress shirts and has a Coursera certificate in "Gamification". Shortly after you sold OpenFeint to Japanese social media company GREE in April of 2011, a class-action lawsuit against OpenFeint and GREE was filed alleging "computer fraud, invasion of privacy, breach of contract, bad faith and seven other statutory violations." And by "shortly after" I mean "two months". Did you unload the company on a foreign investor knowing that the company was actively engaging in multiple breaches of US law, or did GREE turn your application into (effectively) malware and then get caught in the space of less than two months? Don't answer that aloud to your computer screen like a child watching Dora the Explorer, I'm sure we'll find out ourselves eventually!

+1 - Don't fall for the Pig in a Poke. The entire system is a giant scam and money laundering scheme. If you add any kind of crypto/nft integration into discord, that will be the day I leave, and many others will follow.

I just became a Nitro subscriber and the decision to use NFT's makes me regret every penny.
