What does audio bitrate do on Discord?
The audio bitrate setting that can be modified to improve the sound quality while in a voice chat with your friends. The higher the bitrate, the better you and your friends will sound.
How to adjust the audio bitrate?
1. If you’d like to adjust the audio bitrate, hover over the specific voice channel.
As you hover over the voice channel, the Edit Channel cogwheel button will appear.
2. Selecting the Edit Channel cogwheel button [] , will redirect you to the voice channel’s Overview page.
3. Once there, navigate to the audio bitrate bar under Bitrate. This bar can be dragged to increase or decrease the audio bitrate.
Note: Increasing the bitrate will require more bandwidth and can affect those with poor connection.
Increasing the Bitrate Cap
If you’d like to increase the audio bitrate for the entire server, you can do so by boosting the server. Learn more about server boosting here.

✨Level 1✨ - 2 Server Boosts = 128 Kbps Audio Quality
✨Level 2✨ - 7 Server Boosts = 256 Kbps Audio Quality
✨Level 3✨ - 14 Server Boosts = 384 Kbps Audio Quality
Once the server has been boosted to the desired level, the maximum audio bitrate cap will be reflected above the right-hand of the bar.
By boosting the server, you and your friends can enjoy higher sound quality across all voice channels in the server!
