If you're in Brazil, Discord’s Go Live and real-time video chat are currently disabled. This is due to a government order, not a bug on our end.
What this article covers:
What's affected
Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) ordered Discord to suspend Go Live and video chat features for users in Brazil starting August 17, 2026. That covers all real-time video communication functionality on Discord, including in direct messages (DMs), group direct messages (GDMs), voice channels, and Stage channels.
Real-time voice communication and messaging is not impacted by this order. You can still talk, chat, and hang out with your friends and communities as usual, you just can't video chat, share your screen, or watch your friend’s Go Live streams for now.
Why this happened
ANPD issued the Order in connection with an investigation related to Brazil's Digital Statute for Children and Adolescents ("Digital ECA"). The Order requires the suspension "of the 'Go Live' feature and of any other functionally equivalent video-transmission and video-sharing features.” Discord disagrees with ANPD’s decision but is committed to cooperating with Brazilian authorities in the implementation of the Digital ECA.
When will video features become available
Unfortunately, we don't have a specific date for you when these features will become available again. We are actively engaged with the ANPD and are seeking a resolution that would restore these video features for our users in Brazil. We'll keep this page updated as we learn more.
If you, your friends, or servers you’re in rely on Go Live or real-time video chat, you can let them know why those features are unavailable and point them to this page.
