Ideas for Large Communities
So I am a member of a team that runs a fairly large gaming community (~3000 members)
In this discord we support a large number of games. As well as General areas with multiple channels to talk about anything, a verification area with rules, role selects etc, each game has several channels for separate topics relating to this game, very quickly we have amassed hundreds of channels and dozens of categories and although we havent reached the max yet, as more people join and more games have active players we may fill these pretty easily.
I have some ideas and suggestions that would not only help keep servers clean and tidy but allow for some potentially powerful options for communities using discord!
My main idea is the ability for communities to link servers (that can share analytics and roles etc) and have easy access to the separate servers.(you could limit this to only communities over x amount of members or make it a premium option)
The way I would envision this feature is to have a new channel type, or something alongside categories and channels that can be created.
This would essentially be a link that when clicked would auto join you into a separate server (a Hub). Allowing each game (or category) to have a separate area whilst still been linked to the "Main Hub" discord server.
Joining these "Hubs" will only be available through joining the main server first and gaining any relevant roles in order to access them (So no direct invites). Roles would carry over to the hubs so there would be no need to recreate all the potential admin roles in each hub, However you can choose which roles you carry over (such as admin), so each hub could also create its own unique separate hub related roles.
Think of it as a server having branches, or tabs.
I feel like this could honestly be a powerful tool for larger communities and would, in my eyes at least, make the use of separate websites or forums a thing of the past! Think of the "Main Hub" as almost taking the spot of a website, it can have all the information needed relating to the community and the separate Hubs are the different areas you would normally have on a forum.
I just feel like categories alone don't do a good enough job, and having the ability to have a community entirely within Discord would be pretty awesome!

Well, another platform called "Guilded" has that feature of "server hubs". They're called "Groups" there. But it's hard to migrate a community with three thousand members to another platform.

Yes that would be too difficult I think.
We have also tried having separate servers for the bigger games but trying to manage them all as one big community also got difficult - on top of that, people were able to just join this smaller server and not know much about the community etc. It was too much of a pain to manage.
If discord could cater for these larger communities and have something along the lines of Hubs, even if they charge for it (within reason) it would be pretty much perfect.0 -

And if Discord somehow were to implement your suggestion, it would copy Guilded; and I think Discord doesn't want that.
