    Dear casual,

Discord's support staff _requests_ that we post a 'please remove mobile phone number as sole means of account verification' message _here_, in Feedback. Hopefully, with enough messages and upvotes, the policy will be changed.

    Happy trails!

Nope. It has been over six months for me and they still want to collect phone numbers associated with a 'Smart phone'. There has been no change. I hear Twitter, Yandex email and probably others have the same very suspicious means to confirm identity. Even Discord was not evil, lists of active smart phones numbers, linked to the types of communities the user frequents on Discord, is probably worth money to advertisers and scammers.

It's very silly. I still can log in to this Feedback forum and post. Are they not worried that a bunch of people trying to spoof accounts like mine might *gasp* log in here to whine and moan? For months and months? Like they might actually really have a bona fide Discord account that they've been locked out of for spurious reasons?

Meanwhile, I do get emails every time someone sends me a PM, posts an (at) Everyone message or an (at) directed at me. So I do get some news via Discord.

Some communities on Discord allow you to read and post even if you are not using your account that Discord has locked. You follow the invite link to the community, do not click the link that says "already have an account?", instead type in your handle/username/name you want to appear, click continue, "I am human", select a date of birth that makes you over 21 years old, at least, then close the "claim your account" window without filling it in. As I said, unless the moderator of the community has set it to exclude posting by people who have not claimed their account, you will be able to read _and_ post in publicly open channels.

The downside is that every time you do that, you create a new account in the community list, even though you haven't "claimed" it. I guess the moderator would have to purge them?

N3V3R, each board/community or whatever it's called has it's own invite code. Usually a community posts an invite code. Otherwise, I think you can use the Discord search function to look for the community you want.
