Authorized Applications can change certain account details
Just like how on Twitter giving an application access to your account can let it post Tweets for you.
Now this is not possible without selfbotting which is disallowed by ToS.
So it would be cool if we could let Authorized Applications safely use or change parts of the profile on our behalf within reason (so stuff like pfp, status, rpc, etc) in a way that we can deny the request or revoke access.
This could let us for example change our profile picture based on what we were doing or what mood we select in a program. Or it could let us change our user status more dynamically.
Totally agree here, being able to automate once account could really come in handy.
Now selfbots being forbidden, there ain't currently much options. So registering an application to an account (not only reading which would be OAuth2) would be a safe and useful way to do so.5
Nice idea !!!!4
This is a perfectly safe and in some cases, useful idea if applied correctly and with some limitations.
The user would obviously have to authorize the application to change their account details. If you don't trust an app, don't authorize it.4
Exactly what Celeron says here. People fear it might be dangerous but with the right limitations it's actually pretty safe.
Just look at how many other medias such as Twitter handle third party applications in such way.3
