Problem with "push to talk" and new OS Catalina IMac
Anyone had a problem with the new OS Catalina Mac?
I updated netbook and iMac and since I did it, in Discord doesn't work "push to talk".
Any piece of advice?
Thank you.

I also have this problem. The Discord App will not take keybinds when I attempt to record them.
Please Help

I had the same issue even after giving access to Discord in Accessibility. I then noticed that there was in Input monitoring option underneath Accessibility that I also had to gave Discord access to. Once I did this, it started to work.

Hey I'm running into the exact same issue. Without luck I haven't been able to solve it. This is the closest I've gotten so far.

@Xavier Ryan
This solved my problem, thanks man!

@xavier ryan can you explain what you mean by input monitoring option?
1 -
On my computer, I went to:
- System Preferences
- Input Monitoring (located under accessibility. It has a keyboard symbol)
- Plus Arrow and add discordHopefully that makes sense

It's under Security&Privacy now

Thank you so much! Finally got it fixed

Xavier, was the "Discord option" just there when you clicked "Input Monitoring"? I see that section, but there's nothing in that section and no way to add an app. I'm on an older MacBook Pro though (Mid 2012), so I don't know if that's the issue or not.

They moved the setting from "Input Monitoring" to "accessibility"
After you activated that you have to restart discord ... now it works :)0 -
@twizmate- just check the box that's next to discord. This was the suggestion that fixed it for me. Thanks Xavier

Arg. I don't have it on my side:

I tried to reinstall Discord, but it's still not showing.
No PTT for me :(

And ... it's working for me this morning after a Discord update !
(but still nothing in Input monitoring)

I also have nothing under input monitoring, and it's not working.

the function was moved to "Accessibility" Go to preferences > security & privacy > privacy > Accessibility and there, click on discord. It should work.

I followed the instructions to reset all permissions, quit Discord and started it again. I went through the settings to try to add a key bind. In System Settings on Mac Catalina, I gave permissions to Discord for Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring. I am still unable to assign a key bind for Push To Talk.

Same issue. No matter how many times I reinstall, close, clear permissions, add permissions - Discord refuses to recognize the system has enabled input monitoring and accessibility perms. Push to talk works, but gives an error any time it is enabled, and gives an error message anytime I switch between voice chat rooms. Have to hit "cancel" each time. This proves that Macos does provide access, but Discord is not recognizing it and giving an error message. Quite annoying.

I wanted to leave this solution for anyone else having this issue. I installed the Discord Public Test Beta which allowed me to set the keybind for Push To Talk and provide permissions for Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring in System Preferences.
I am able to use Push To Talk properly. I just use the Public Test Beta for Discord on Mac now (not the regular stable version).

Beta didn't work for me. What I found in my case is that an app called Karabiner (which allows for remapping of keys) conflicts with Discord's input monitoring. Karabiner did not previously interfere with Discord on my system. I suspect an update of Discord changed the way Discord views the available keyboards for monitoring since Karabiner establishes a virtual keyboard. I've used both with no changes for many months without issue. Then one day after a Discord update keybinds don't work.
The Karabiner grabber and observer when removed from Macos input monitoring allows Discord keybinds to work again. However, Karabiner then stops working.
Thanks.

This thing is so annoying.
My laptop will go to sleep and this feature will suddenly stop working while no changes in the permissions were made.
Insane.
It's completely random. Tried resetting all permissions as per the Known Issue description to no avail.

blak0ut identified the problem for me. I use Karabiner to remap capslock to esc, but apparently this conflicts with Discord's push-to-talk. Exiting Karabiner and restarting Discord allows me to use push to talk, but it is super annoying to not be able to have Karabiner also working at the same time.

I have removed Karabiner long time ago :(
The weird part is that it starts to work... randomly. I come back to my computer after a while and suddenly it's working...

It won't let me tick the box for some reason guys!

@abjofficial have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? How about the public test beta https://discordapp.com/api/download/ptb?platform=osx?

This, and lack of music control (pause or turn down the volume on PTT) are the two most annoying bugs in the mac client.
I am having issue with push to talk constantly. It's completely random and the fix is also random. For 2 weeks i was fine and today again... no PTT. App complains about lack of permissions. I check the privacy settings - everything was as i left it - allowed.
And the fun time starts. I remove the permissions. Restart discord. Start it again. It asks for permissions, I allow it, restart of discord. Nada... And round we go.
Today I was able to fix the issue by restarting the system. Mind you, I almost never restart it. I put it to sleep, go home, put it to sleep, go back to the office. I don't have anything installed which would take over the keyboard or change its settings. Better yet, I actually take my keyboard with me all the time.
After last time I have switched to the public beta test version, there was no update today though.
So..
Currently, I have two workarounds for this problem:
1. I Restart my system. In most cases this is enough
2. If restarting does not work... I have to remove discord, reset all privacy settings (tccutil reset All), install again, start it, when it asks for permission, without doing anything else, go to the permissions, set it, restart discord. This is EXTREMALY annoying because it resets settings of the whole system (I know there's way to limit it to the single app, but the only way it worked ofr me was when I reset the whole thing and it takes me less time to just follow the procedure than to try to find a different workaround when it happens).
Anyway, I think Discord treats Mac like shit. I know it's a little % of the user base, I know some features would require time spent on it which will not result in increased income, however, PTT handling seems like the basic thing and investing some time to figure it out would go a long way.
The best thing is, that I am pretty sure the procedures I go through disable something else that prevents Discord from functioning properly, but without a proper error message I see no way to tackle this issue without help of the dev team.

krystian, I know you're frustrated, but what's been your experience after using PTB? Have you had any issues after that? After the steps I posted above, I haven't had any issues. I use PTB as my Discord client (uninstalled the regular release to prevent accidentally opening it).
The only issue I have is video rendering calling my Macbook Pro to overheat. I usually run it with a cooling pad if I'm viewing video on a call (forget streaming my own video) or take the call on my phone.

Hi Jeshi.
Switching to PTB changed nothing at all, same issues, unfortunately.
I keep on using it hoping I will get the update early.
Either way, happy week, no issues so far...

Thank you Hardy Blackstone, Karabiner was exactly what was causing the issue, thanks for the tip!
But it's true, it's very annoying that I have to turn off Karabiner for Discord's Push to Talk to work.

I just submitted a bug report for the issue with Karabiner, but had anyone else done that previously? Given that global keybinds work for me in other apps, this does seem like a Discord bug.

The Link provided by Forgetful DM (user) did the trick for me today: https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035130231--Known-Issues-Discord-on-macOS-Catalina
Under Privacy the request from the Discord app to 'input monitor' would not appear until I used the command prompt in terminal to reset the Discord 'permissions.' I quit Discord, reopened it and then was immediately prompted by the security of Catalina that Discord was requesting access to input monitoring.
