discord beeps without showing where the new activity is
Discord is starting to drive me crazy with all it's unclear beeps.
First off, I have desktop notifications turned off, because there is no way to force them to the second monitor, and I don't want them popping up on top of my primary monitor gaming sessions.
With notifications turned off, it's virtually impossible to tell where the beeps are coming from. My discord had been beeping all this morning without adding any red-numbers to any servers, and I finally got fed up with it and muted all servers.. which is not what I want to do, but I don't have any choice.
So now I have discord with desktop notifications off, and all servers muted.... because the notification system in discord is so broken.
Please
1) Make some notification-history UI page inside the discord app, which will show a history of everything that caused a beep or ding on any server for any reason.. so when it beeps or dings I can go and look in one place and see what the hell caused it, even if it's been a while.
2) Allow me to set desktop notifications to show in ANY corner of ANY monitor, and dismiss after a configurable delay, including NEVER.

More than 1 year and the same problem was not solved yet... What a shame, Discord bakers!

It does seem crazy that there is a system in place to notify you of alerts/messages that gives you no indicator as to where those alerts/messages have come from.
Discord "Something has happened!"
Me "What? What's happened?"
Discord "You'll just have to look through every server and every channel to try and find out now won't you?"

Please just make notification history. I have no idea where all my beeps are coming from. Its so anoying. Beeps all the time but theres nothing in discord that indicates where the beep comes from.
Please fix4 -
I NEVER use discord and I never will because of the beep problem. I can mute the site, or I can not use it at all. Guess which I do?

Just set yourself in dnd lol (it solves the problem)

Same here - i resorted to disabeling the message sound output in the notifications setting @discord - it would be nice if there were at leas some sort of reaction - the current situation is more than disappointing...

I had this problem and I found out muting the servers do nothing, you have to go into each individual server and their channels, and right click them and click 'mute channel' on each channel you don't care about in each server you're in, and change the others to like '@mentions only'.
I did this, and I no longer get phantom beeps, only notifications of actual mentions. Its long but it works, hope it helps.1 -
Still no fix? (none of these workarounds are good)

Wish I had a positive fix for this. First is to restart Discord and then restart the computer. Discord has lots of bugs and that seems to clear most of them.
Also, I use the right-click on server "Mark As Read" which seems to stop my beeps most of the time.. But they come back in days to weeks. The sound of the beep is the default mute/unmute bleep. I also use the fact that there are two Discord volume controls in the Windows 10 Volume Mixer. One is for the bleeping junk and the other is for voices. I mute the bleeping junk volume when the stuff starts to go nuts while I am in a game. Sometimes that control does not do anything. Restarting Discord fixes that. It doesn't matter to me that I don't get any notifications; I've got more of those than I need. I just want to play a game or three and talk.
I'll add that Discord has more than a few very strange audio bugs. The one I hate the most is one where I can set all my System Volume Mixer levels to 0 or mute and still have sound coming out as though the system volume controls are owned by Discord. All I have to do is restart Discord and the volume controls start working correctly. And then there is the Voice & Video Settings. The Input and Output device options are not handled correctly. I cannot leave the Default setting and change my system setting for a default device and have that device play or listen in discord. Typically, I have to manually switch the input and output to the fully named device and not use the Default selection. But inconsistently.
Happy Trails and Stay Healthty

I'm just here to add to the year long pile of people complaining about beeps with no indication of source.
It's such a simple thing to fix, come on. A history of notifications, I admit, even though an elegant solution it does require some UI work. But why not just make the server that last beeped blink? A frequent annoying beep usually comes from the same source; an ongoing conversation somewhere. So you're there browsing the web and discord goes 'beep' so you go check what it is, then one of the 10 servers is blinking, you go there, there's a channel blinking, you go there, participate or mute, problem solved.

Please fix this. I have EVERY server set to @ mentions only. Im still getting beep notifications with no red flag on the server indicating which one of the 10 I am in each with 70 million channels active is beeping.

I hunted for this and I think I found something. Not the most intuitive thing and maybe not what we're all hoping for but top right there is a button: "Inbox -> Unread Messages" (I sparsely tested only using the browser version while frustrated with the phantom beeps as well). The topmost message here seems to also correspond to what made beeps. (Keyboard shortcut Ctrl-I, then Ctrl-Shift-E to mark as read.)

Hello guys. Actually I was one of you. Turns out - there are notifications. We just do not see them. Here is the answer I have gotten from discord support, please read carefully:
==================
...
Going back to your concern, I would like to clarify that you will still get notification sounds for messages even if you can't see any red ping notifications besides the server icon.If you look closely, you can see the white notification indicators on the left side of server icons which means that you have unread messages on those servers and you got notification sounds from these unread messages.
I can suggest that you disable the notification sounds for "Messages" within the User Settings > Notifications to prevent this behavior from happening.
==================
And What I can add to this supports answer is - there is a white small area on the very left side of the channels under the server that indicates which canned do you have unread messages at. :) Here we are... Hope it helps.

(when I wrote this only sbjerk's message was there) That's actually useful to know; I didn't see this thing up there. They show up in order so it basically solves my problem. I would prefer a blinking icon to go with the beeps but a list of unread notifications works.

Thanks! sbjerk
- top right there is a button: "Inbox -> Unread Messages"
SO simple in the end.

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO TELL WHICH OF MY 50 SERVERS IS BEEPING AT ME, W T F, DO SOMETHING ALREADY @DSICORD DEVS!
It's not an inbox message.
It's not a new DM (I always check that first).
There is just no way to track down if I was @'d or something.
Problems of scale need to take priority, PLEASE fix this.1 -
Two YEARS later and this is still a massive problem. I would stop using discord completely if I could, as it is I only ONLY start it up when I need it for voice chat during games - I might let it run more often if it didn't beep ever 5 seconds for no good reason, most likely because there's activity in some muted server, because there's certainly no activity in the two servers I have unmuted and no direct message activity (muted servers should not create notification sounds FYI)

I'm getting the same. I have dozens of servers with hundreds of channels each so no way I'm going to go muting them one by one. There should be a log of what specifically causes the beeps. I'm a developer so I'm not afraid if it's hidden behind some console commands.

Bump!
This is the main reason I don't use discord unless I absolutely have to.
Don't assume every can hear and/or uses discord for gaming voice chat,
and *do* synchronize a visual cue that is synced and specific to each beep.

Please reread ffatheranderson's post again, he detailed this issue quite well.

Hope it helps."So when you hear the tone, check your channel list, to the VERY LEFT of the channel there is a white indicator which indicates that there are unread messages in that channel. When you goto to the channel, the rooms with unread messages will be in bolded white.

The problem is that we are usually interested in knowing what's causing the 'current beeps'. The reality of chat rooms is that every server is always white and every channel inside is also always white, and muting everything defeats the purpose of using Discord. So if you want to know which one is active right now no "unread messages" color notification will help.
The best solution is to make a habit of checking the well hidden 'inbox' button at the upper right corner. That shows the last activity, answering the question "what made that beep?"

I have a similar issue where I hear the Beep, but I have not the white bar next to the discord server on th left panel. Annoying before I can't know where does it come from.
