Fix Phone Verification
My account asks me to verify by phone nearly every other day. I have two factor authentication enabled. I connect from the same devices. Nobody else has logged into the account. I have not used a new device. Regardless, I continue to be asked to do the same phone verification over and over. Today, the verification told me "This phone number was recently used on a different account." The phone was definitely not used for a different account since I last verified. The only thing I can think of is that Discord flagged the phone to not be used after I used it two days ago, and the time length still hasn't expired, so now I have to use a different phone to verify the same account.
Discord needs to fix this phone verification system immediately, otherwise those of us that use Discord on a regular basis will need to switch platforms to ensure that we aren't disrupted during an event. I personally use discord to communicate with a guild. Many people I play with regularly make new accounts to get arround these verification problems. If I cant find a proper resolution I will be creating a Matrix server to provide all of us with an alternative platform that doesn't constantly have problems. Currently, I would need to purchase a new phone number to get my account verified, and the cost of doing so would be more money than paying for a Matrix server. So, from my perspective it is more affordable to leave Discord. The only reason I would not leave discord is to save other people the hassle of switching platforms.
I have opened, and will continue to open support tickets. So far, the support has been unhelpful in resolving this issue, and I expect that they will continue to be unhelpful. It is likely that support does not have the resources to correctly fix the verification problems, because they are problems in the way the platform is programmed, not problems that can be fixed with the type of tools available to support staff.
Hopefully other people can post to say that they have had similar problems. I've personally communicated with many. I might see if I can rally up a bunch of people to make this really apparent that it's a real issue and not just a random complaint. I understand that discord wants to get phone numbers to tie to the data they gather on their users, and I also understand that they want to keep spam and hacking minimized, but it is working against their own interests to lock out legitimate users from accounts, especially when users like myself have 2FA enabled and working.

Add me to the list of users having difficulties with this phone verification garbage. Servers are beginning to require it just to send messages to them, and because I lack a phone, I'm basically screwed, locked out and discriminated against.

This happened to me today, and I am really freaked out. I don't have a phone or a phone number- I only have an email. It seems I will be locked out of my account and I cannot make a new one because all of my other accounts either are already using discord, or are for school. I'm really pissed off. I run a whole server- and I have a lot of friends on there. This really sucks.

Having the same problem as you guys right now. Not a huge issue for me since my email, so far, is working to let me log in. However, my channel is saying I can't send messages unless I verify my phone number. Once I type in my number, it sends me a message that says, "An existing Discord account is already using this number. Please remove it before it can be used with a new account."
At least I can still log in (so far), but I'm worried it's going to lock me out for good at some point.

Hey everyone. If you have looked down this far in the comments, your screwed. This system is trash and will forever be trash. I spent a total of 18,000 hours on discord, only for this to happen. Its been 1 year. Nothing will happen. My work, thousands of friends, thousands of hours, my life. Gone. If you ever see this, know that its too late. Just make a new discord account. But for me, I will be dead. Bye.

Same people occured to me right now, i'm asked to verify my account with my phone on both my PC and phone, when i enter the phone number it says its invalid

Same thing here. Was in the middle of something I deemed quite important only to get the message ‘an existing discord account is already attached to this number’. It’s definitely not.

The irony of needing to sign in to Discord to add to this.
I'd have to say, first time users, Discord sign up flow is really smooth. But after that it quickly moves from best to absolute worst. I've never sworn at sign in flows as much as with Discord.
Being locked out of every single Discord server for an unspecified amount of time like this is ridiculous. Hopefully Microsoft will fix this when they acquire them.

Discord is supposed to provide two ways for verification, via email and phone number1 -
My alt already had verified email, it just joined a lot of guilds at once and joined some phone verification guilds too(so it got flagged, but discord refuses to remove this login barrier), all I want is to be able to login like I was able before this block.

These guys don't care about anything, people have been having this problem for years and now I'm one of them too. "Don't have a phone? that's too bad, say goodbye to your discord account that LEADS A GUILD OF 700 DISCORD MEMBERS." DISCORD, GET IT TOGETHER, LET US VERIFY THROUGH EMAIL, SAME THING EVERY OTHER PLATFORM HAS DONE FOR DECADES.

Same problem for me,
Following a subscription on a website, I was led to create an other account on discord through my phone number, that I did by mistake.
Since this event, I can't access anymore to my real discord account.
I deleted the discord account created by mistake, but still can't log to my other discrtod account. I m not able to use my phone to verify my account as It says me the message "Phone number invalid".
Apparently, due to GDPR reason, they can't remove some informations such as phone number from their database. So my phone number is maybe store somewhere for an account not usable, and deleted...
Before the deletion, I tried to switch the phone number on this account by an other phone number. But It didn't resolve the issue. So maybe, two phone numbers are now registered on their database, I can't use to verify my real discord account.
So I can't use discord since a month now. I'm starting to look after other platforms than discord then.

You may have a different issue. "Phone Number Invalid" means it thinks its a voip phone or other burner device. Is the number your giving it your valid number from a legit cell account with a big carrier? If it is, my guess is you will never be able to use that number. But you should be able to use it if its a valid number. cant be a land line number either i dont think.

It's a valid number, not VOIP phone or anything. It's not a land line number.

today i got on login the error message 'this phone numer was used on a different account'. but thats sure not possible because i've no alt acc. login with email adress only is not possible.
i wrote to the support 8 hours ago. no answer.
i've no idea, how to login again :(

ok, support have had answered. they can't help, because the 'system' has set a flag and they can't change that.
today discord was accessible again.
