Running into Voice and Video Shenanigans?
Not able to hear your friend in your voice channel? Friends not able to hear you in group DMs even when you're shouting at the top of your lungs? Is your video not loading at all?
If you answered "YES" to any of those questions above, or are having any other shenanigans, hopefully this guide below can help you resolve any audio/voice and video issues that pop up for you!
What does this article cover?
First Discord Settings to Check
Before you start any troubleshooting below for any voice/audio or video issues, make sure to double check these settings before moving on to troubleshooting for your specific client.
Sometimes if you identify these issues early on, you won’t have to try any other steps!
Check for Mutes or Deafens
- First steps first, check if you have muted/deafened yourself or another user! You’ll be able to check this by seeing if the mic or headset icon has a slash across it or not.
- Additionally, it’s possible that you may have been Server Muted or Deafened by an admin or Server Owner! In these cases, you will need to reach out to the server owner or admins to remove the Server Mute or Deafen.
Check Channel/Role Permissions
- Does this voice/audio/video issue happen in all servers, or only within a specific channel or server?
-
If this issue only occurs in the specific channel or server, you may need to reach out to the server owner or admins to make sure you have the correct role or channel permissions and enable the following voice permissions:
- Connect
- Speak
- Video
Check Volume Settings
-
If you’re not able to hear a specific user in the server or direct call, it’s possible that you may have changed the volume settings for an individual user!
- On Desktop or Browser, you can right click the user’s icon and then change the User Volume using the volume slider in the menu.
- On mobile, when you’re in a voice channel/voice call, you can tap on the user’s icon and then change the Volume Settings directly.
