Abusing or defrauding Discord or our payment system violates our Terms of Service.
When we receive a fraud report from your financial institution about a purchase made on Discord, we may suspend your account to protect you, our community, and our payment systems from potential abuse.
To avoid violating this policy, please direct all refund, fraud, or billing inquiries to our support team at dis.gd/billing instead of contacting your financial institution.
If your account has already been suspended for this violation, you can appeal by submitting a request to Discord's Trust & Safety Team at dis.gd/request.
What this article covers:
What is an Early Fraud Warning (EFW)?
An Early Fraud Warning (EFW) is a notification Discord receives from your financial institution (such as your bank or card issuer) that one or more transactions made on your Discord account were reported as potentially fraudulent.
This does not always mean your account has been compromised, but it does indicate your payment method was flagged for unusual or suspicious activity.
We take these reports seriously to protect both you and our community from potential fraud and abuse.
Why did I get an EFW notice?
You may have received an EFW notice because:
- A purchase on your account was reported to Discord as fraudulent by your bank or card issuer.
- Your payment method was reported to Discord as being used without your authorization.
- Your account may have been compromised, and someone else made purchases without permission.
- A billing dispute or refund request was filed with your bank instead of contacting Discord Support.
What happens after an Early Fraud Warning?
There are two possible outcomes:
For Low-Risk Early Fraud Warnings:
- You’ll receive an email notifying you of the fraud report.
- If the report was made in error, contact your financial institution to resolve it.
- Additional fraud reports in the future may lead to account suspension for review.
- Filing chargebacks or refund requests directly with your bank may also result in account suspension. For more details, review our Chargebacks FAQ.
However, if fraud has occurred on your account or payment source, please submit a support inquiry directly to Discord. You can refer to our Reporting Unauthorized Discord Transactions article for more information.
For High-Risk Early Fraud Warnings:
- Your account will be suspended pending further investigation.
- You’ll receive an email explaining the suspension and instructions for appeal.
- To appeal, submit a request via dis.gd/request and select Appeals & Age Update Requests under What can we help you with?.
- Please make sure to include the following in your appeal:
- The reason for the fraud report
- Evidence of withdrawal (if applicable)
- A screenshot of the reported transaction from your billing statement (amount, date, descriptor)
How can I avoid an EFW or suspension?
- Use payment methods that you are authorized to use
- Keep your Discord account secure with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
- If you have billing issues, contact Discord Support instead of filing a dispute with your bank
- Monitor your account activity regularly for unauthorized charges
What should I do if I think an EFW notice is wrong?
For Low-Risk EFWs:
- Contact your bank to resolve the report. If you have billing concerns, reach out to Discord Support.
For High-Risk EFWs:
- Follow the appeal process in your suspension email.
