Discord Voice Troubleshooting
If you're experiencing issues with voice chat on Discord, follow this step-by-step guide to help diagnose and resolve common problems.
1. Check Your Microphone and Headset
- Ensure your microphone or headset is properly connected to your device.
- If using a USB microphone, try plugging it into a different port.
- Test your microphone with another app to confirm it’s working.
2. Verify Input and Output Devices in Discord
2a. To check your input devices through the desktop/browser app, tap on the cogwheel icon [] in the lower-left corner of the app to access your User Settings.

2b. Tap on the Voice & Video tab. Make sure the correct Input Device and Output Device are selected. If you’re having trouble with your microphone not working while using the Discord app on desktop/browser, you can also run a Mic Test.

2c. On the Discord mobile app, tap on your avatar in the bottom-right corner. Then tap on the cogwheel in the top-right corner to access User Settings.
2d. While under User Settings, scroll down and tap on Voice under App Settings. Here you can check your Input settings to ensure the correct Input Mode is selected (Voice Activity or Push to Talk).

2e. On the mobile app, you can adjust the Output volume and see if enabling or disabled additional settings helps.
3. Make sure you’re not Muted or Deafened
Double-check to ensure you haven’t accidentally muted or deafened yourself. You can check this on desktop/browser by looking to the right-hand side of your avatar in the bottom-left corner of the app.

4. Check for any Discord app updates
Ensure you're using the latest version of the app, whether on desktop or mobile, to maintain compatibility and access the latest features.

1. Check Video device settings
1a. If your video is not displaying for others, the first thing you want to check is that the correct camera device is selected.

1b. If the correct device is selected, please double-check the following:
- Ensure your camera is properly connected to your device and try another port.
- If using an external webcam, try unplugging and reconnecting it.
Test the camera in another application to confirm it’s working.
2. Check for any updates
Ensure you're using the latest version of the app, whether on desktop or mobile, to maintain compatibility and access the latest features.
If you have software installed for your webcam, check to make sure it doesn’t have any outstanding updates as well.

Discord Streaming & Screen Share Troubleshooting
If you’re running into any issues with screen sharing or streaming, here are some settings to check.
1. Check your Internet Connection
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection to prevent lag or disconnections.
- If possible, use a wired connection for better stability.
2. Restart Discord and Your Device & Check for Updates
- Close and reopen Discord to refresh the app.
- If the issue persists, restart your computer or mobile device.
- Make sure you’re also running the latest version of the Discord app.
3. Disable Hardware Acceleration
If you have Hardware Acceleration on, and you find your stream is lagging, please try disabling this setting to see if it helps.
3a. Tap on the cogwheel icon [] in the lower-left corner of the app to access your User Settings in the desktop/browser app.

3b. Press on Voice & Video then tap on the Video tab. While here, scroll down until you see the Hardware Acceleration setting. If enabled, tap on the check mark to disable.

4. Grant Necessary Permissions
Make sure that your desktop device has all of the necessary permissions to be able to screen share in Discord.
Windows:
- Run Discord as an administrator by right-clicking the Discord icon and selecting Run as administrator.
- Check Settings > Privacy > Screen Recording to ensure Discord has permission to record the screen.
macOS:
- Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.
- Under Screen Recording, ensure Discord is checked.
