Nitro credits are an Orbs-exclusive item in the Shop that give you Nitro for a limited amount of time.

What are Nitro Credits?

Nitro credits give you Nitro for a limited amount of time. 

  • They are earned by purchasing in the Shop, or occasionally completing specific Quests. 
  • The duration of each credit varies depending on the Quest. 
  • Nitro credits do not expire and can stack if multiple Nitro credits are earned.
  • Nitro credits do not become a recurring subscription.
  • Once all your Nitro credits have been used and their duration is over, your Nitro subscription will revert to its normal state.
  • Some Nitro Perks are not available with Nitro credits. Perks that are not included:
    • Two Boosts
    • Boost discount
    • Profile badge
    • Share Nitro (Referral Program)
Nitro credits do not give you 2 free Server Boosts or the 30% discount on additional Boost purchases. However, you can still enjoy all the other Nitro perks. To learn more about all Nitro perks, check out this article.

How do I obtain Nitro Credits?

Nitro credits can only be obtained on the Discord desktop app and browser app, but if you have active Nitro credits, you can enjoy your Nitro benefits on any device, including mobile.

You can claim Nitro credits in the Shop using Discord Orbs. Orbs are virtual rewards that you can earn by completing Quests. 

Once you have earned Orbs, you can get Nitro credits in the  Shop > Orbs Exclusives page.

Where can I view my Nitro Credits?

To view your Nitro credits, go to your User Settings by selecting the cogwheel [] icon in the bottom-left corner of the app.

Then, press Subscriptions. In the Nitro Credit section, you can see how many credits you've earned, check their expiration date, and verify if your credits are active.

How do I use Nitro Credits? 

Once they are earned, Nitro credits activate automatically at different times depending on whether you have a pre-existing subscription or not. 

  • If you have no Nitro subscription: 
    • Credits activate instantly upon earning them.
  • If you have an active Nitro subscription: 
    • Credits activate automatically at the end of your current billing cycle.

Managing Your Subscription with Active Nitro Credits

If you have active Nitro credits and a Nitro subscription here’s what happens in different scenarios:

  • Starting a new Nitro subscription or upgrading: Your credits will pause and start again at the end of your billing cycle.
  • Downgrading or removing additional Boosts from Nitro: Any changes will take effect after your current credits expire.
  • Cancelling Nitro: Changes happen right away, but don't worry - your active credits will still work.

Server Boost Subscription

If you have a Boost-only subscription, you can freely manage your Boosts, including cancelling your subscription, without any impact to your Nitro credits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens to my Nitro subscription if I obtain Nitro credits?

A: Your Nitro subscription will continue until the end of your current billing cycle. Then, your Nitro credits will activate automatically. Once your Nitro credits have been fully used, your paid Nitro subscription will automatically renew again.

Q: I’m a current Nitro subscriber. What happens to my billing date if I obtain Nitro credits?

A: Your billing date will be adjusted based on how long your Nitro credits last.

Q: I have active Server Boosts with my current Nitro subscription. What happens to these Boosts if I activate my Nitro credits?

A: Your existing Server Boosts will remain active and unchanged. While Nitro credits are active, you’ll be able to transfer your Boosts between servers as long as it follows the normal cooldown periods. See our Server Boosting FAQ for more information.  

Q: Can I purchase new Server Boosts when Nitro credits are active?

A: No, you won’t be able to purchase new Server Boosts when Nitro credits are active. 

Q: Can I cancel any Server Boost subscriptions I have while Nitro credits are active?

A: No, you won’t be able to cancel any pre-existing Boost subscriptions until your Nitro credits have been completely used. 

Q: What if I obtain Nitro credits while my subscription is past due?

A: If you obtain Nitro credits while your subscription is past due, they will be applied in one of two ways:

  • If no successful payment is made during the 30-day grace period, the credits will be applied after the grace period ends.
  • If a payment is successful, the credits will be applied at your next billing cycle. 

Q: Can I use my Nitro credits at any time?

A: No, Nitro credits automatically activate at different times depending on your subscription status:

  • If you’re a current subscriber: Nitro credits automatically apply at the end of your current billing cycle. 
  • If you don’t have an active Nitro subscription: Your Nitro credits will be activated immediately upon getting them.

Q: How do Nitro credits interact with subscription credits (gifts)?

A: The interaction between Nitro credits and subscription credits depends on your specific situation. Here are some common scenarios:

1. Active gift credit, no stored credits: Nitro credits activate after the current gift period ends.

2. Multiple stored gift credits with an active subscription: Nitro credits activate after the current billing period. Then, the next gift credit will be used to continue the subscription.

3. Stored gift credits, no active subscription: Nitro credits activate immediately. Doesn't affect existing gift credits.
