How to Subscribe to Nitro or Nitro Basic
Nitro and Nitro Basic are available as monthly or annual subscriptions, with local pricing in select countries.
You'll be billed once per billing period, with benefits lasting the length of your subscription. Cancel anytime—your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
On Desktop/Browser
Through User Settings
1. Open your User Settings by selecting the cogwheel icon [] in the bottom-left.
2. Select the Nitro tab.
3. Find the Subscribe button in the Nitro banner, Nitro card or Nitro Basic card.
4. Follow the prompts in the Select Plan window to complete your subscription!

Q: Why do I need Nitro to upload more than 10MB of files?
A: Every day, millions of files are uploaded to Discord and stored securely for your future access. Storage management is expensive, so we regularly review how people use Discord and their storage needs. In fact, our data shows that 99% of users stick to files smaller than 10MB.
In order to maintain our service without compromising on quality of storage, we decided to reduce the free file size upload limit. Unlike other platforms, we store your files for as long as you need them, so it’s crucial that we manage our storage sustainably. If you need more upload capacity, Nitro Basic offers a 50MB limit, and Nitro gives you up to 500 MB, so you have options that fit your needs.
Q: How do I cancel or switch my Nitro plan?
A: On desktop or browser, navigate to your User Settings and select the Subscribe tab, then choose Switch Plans or Cancel in the upper-right corner of the subscription banner. Learn more about canceling your subscription in our How to Cancel Nitro Subscription article.

Q: Do you offer Nitro and Nitro Basic in my local currency?

Q: Can I gift Nitro Basic to a friend?
A: Gifting Nitro Basic is available on the desktop/browser clients and the mobile clients. To gift Nitro Basic, you must go to the Nitro page which you can find by pressing the Discord logo in your desktop or browser app or you can go to the Nitro page in your User Settings. Nitro Classic
Q: I have a Nitro Classic subscription, but I no longer see Nitro Classic in the UI. Can I still subscribe to Nitro Classic?
A: If you have an active Nitro Classic subscription, you can keep your current plan. Please note that if you cancel your subscription, you will not be able to re-subscribe to Classic.
Q: I have Nitro Classic credits in my account but I don’t know what Nitro Classic gives me.
A: Nitro Classic unlocks the following perks on your account:
- Profile customization: animated avatar, Nitro badge.
- 30% off Boost purchases
- Use custom and animated emojis anywhere
- Bigger file uploads (50MB)
- Screen share up to 1080p/60fps
Q: I have Nitro Classic credits, how can I use them?
A: Please keep in mind that you cannot follow these steps if you already have an active Nitro or Nitro Basic subscription. You will need to wait until your current subscription ends in order to use your Nitro Classic credits. You can cancel your current subscription under User Settings > Subscriptions. When your subscription ends, follow these steps:
- On the desktop or web client (this is not available on mobile), go to User Settings > Subscriptions.
- On the bottom of the page, you should see a banner for Nitro Classic. Click the “Subscribe” button.
- After completing the process to begin your Nitro Classic subscription, your subscription should automatically begin using your existing credit.

Q: I don’t have a Nitro subscription and I want to purchase Classic.
A: At this moment, you can only subscribe to Nitro and Nitro Basic. Nitro Classic is not available for purchase.
